Go To

Stan's confidence is shattered when he gets bested by a used car salesman.

Tropes:

  • Almighty Janitor: A used car salesman is a better manipulator than Stan, the CIA agent.
  • Complexity Addiction: Stan concocted his scheme to get back at the salesman with an estimated time frame of two years. Specifically, he would pretend to lose his mind, walk out on the family, and then wait until they ran into the salesman and his family while shopping.
  • Ethnic Menial Labor: Francine and Hayley become maids to make ends meet. However, the owner of the first home they clean assumes they are Hispanic, makes a number of rude comments, and even threatens to report them to INS.
  • Myth Arc: The Golden Turd arc resumes following "Homeland Insecurity." Despondent that he killed his best friend and his fiancĂ©e left him, Jim parks his truck on the train tracks and is killed. A cop finds the Golden Turd at the scene and takes it home. His wife wants to use it to pay for a better retirement, but the cop decides it was a mistake to steal evidence. His wife then puts rat poison in his tea.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title is based on Gene Kranz's quote "Failure is not an option!" from Apollo 13.
  • Retirony: The cop who finds the Golden Turd is a week away from retirement when his wife poisons him.
  • Stunned Silence: With Francine cleaning people's homes, Steve missing another chance to lose his virginity, and Hayley selling her body for prostitution, all three are completely silent as Stan gloats that his scheme worked.
