Roger becomes depressed that he didn't leave a mark on the universe like he wanted. He decides to reveal himself as an alien so Stan can fake his death, and to do this for maximum exposure, they produce a show about IRS cops. Meanwhile, in a follow-up from "Mean Francine," Jeff struggles to find a new hat.

Tropes:

  • Aborted Arc: Played for Laughs. After failing to find a hat, Jeff declares he must go on a long quest to find one. However, it's revealed that the store owner secretly had Jeff's original hat all along as part of a plan to make him lose his mind so that he can date Hayley. But then Jeff finds his hat and declares the quest to be over.
  • Offscreen Inertia: Jeff spends the entire episode at the hat store with the rest of the family. A caption even confirms that they've been at the store over the several months that Stan and Roger have written and starred in a hit show.
  • Sequel Episode: The show finally returns to the B-plot of Jeff looking for his missing hat from "Mean Francine," which aired five years earlier.
  • Springtime for Hitler: Stan and Roger create Audit Cops so that they'll have a reason to be on Morning Mimosa and reveal that Roger is an alien. However, the show ends up being a hit and Stan becomes focused on the success of the show rather than the plan to expose Roger.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The alien movie producer eats the kid who went into space with Roger.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: Roger decides to just reveal himself on Morning Mimosa, even though Audit Cops is a hit and Stan is focusing his energy on it. However, just before he does, the news interrupts the show to reveal that aliens are real. Stan expected Roger to do this, so he arranged for another flying saucer to land and have his CIA coworkers shoot the alien, preemptively stealing his thunder.
