Recap / After War Gundam X 02 I Will Give You Power

Go To

Garrod finds himself outmatched by Witz and Roabea. He tries to bluff by claiming that the GX has a secret superweapon capable of annihilating them, but they call his bluff and continue attacking. Garrod realizes that they are avoiding hitting the GX's cockpit because they are under orders not to harm Tiffa, so he bluffs again and uses Tiffa as a human shield. Witz attempts to pursue (demonstrating the Airmaster's transformation ability in the process), but Jamil fires a signal flare ordering him to retreat. An information broker watches the fight and decides to make a quick buck by selling the information to Vedoba Morte, a mobile suit pilot who is interested in acquiring a Gundam for herself.

Back on the Freeden, Roabea tells Witz that he's concerned that a Vulture with such a steadfast reputation as Jamil would go to such extreme lengths as hiring them to raid the Alternative Company to capture a child. Witz isn't interested until Roabea raises the possibility of blackmailing Jamil with the information. Sara overhears them and goes off to report them to Jamil. Roabea tries to seduce her into stopping. When that doesn't work, he points out that he and Witz have the right to know just what they are risking their lives for, an argument that Sara seems somewhat more receptive to.

Garrod and Tiffa are camping in the woods. Garrod tries to ask Tiffa about her past, but she says that she's more interested in his past. Garrod explains that he was born in the last year of the war. His father was a military mechanic who died in the war. Garrod decided to follow in his father's footsteps and become a mechanic, but that dream was ruined when mobile suit-piloting bandits raided the town he lived in and nearly killed him. Garrod decided to start anew and became a salvager and mercenary. Garrod awkwardly asks Tiffa out, but he is interrupted when Vedoba attacks the camp.

Garrod and Tiffa are saved when another mobile suit pilot shows up and attacks Vedoba, giving them time to get back in the GX. Dozens of mobile suits arrive: it turns out that the information broker sold his "exclusive" information on the GX to everyone who could afford it and is watching the battle from afar to get more footage of the GX to sell. Garrod manages to disable Vedoba's Jenice and she is promptly killed by another pilot, who drags her Jenice away for salvage. The Freeden notices the signs of fighting and hurries to join the battle.

Garrod finds himself overwhelmed by the enemy's vastly superior numbers. Suddenly, Tiffa tells him that she will give him power. Tiffa concentrates and a computer in an abandoned moonbase turns on. Garrod receives a notification about a "Satellite System" and the moonbase sends a tracking laser to the GX. Jamil unsuccessfully tries to telepathically communicate with Tiffa to get her to stop and orders Witz and Roabea to launch. The Gundam X transforms and the moonbase fires a microwave at it, which the GX transfers to its Satellite Cannon. Garrod fires, annihilating all of the enemies (except for Witz and Roabea, who are far enough away to dodge) as well as the information broker.

The Freeden crew looks at the destruction in horror. Jamil explains that the Satellite Cannon is a nightmare from fifteen years ago. When the dust settles, Garrod finds himself in a barren crater. Suddenly, Tiffa lets out an earshattering scream.

  • Accidental Truth: It turns out that Garrod's bluff about the GX possessing a superweapon was entirely true.
  • BFG: The Satellite Cannon is a significantly more powerful twist on the High Mega Launcher concept. It is a microwave-powered cannon that burns entire armies to a crisp.
  • Bait-and-Switch Boss: Vedoba is built up as the bad guy of the week, but she's killed early on and the true "boss fight" is against the swarm of mobile suit pilots seeking to capture the GX for themselves.
  • Foreshadowing: Jamil almost falls for Garrod's bluff about having a superweapon, because he knows that the GX has a Satellite Cannon.
  • Missing Mom: Garrod never mentions what happened to his mother when he tells Tiffa his backstory.
  • Oh, Crap!: Jamil panics when he thinks that Garrod can activate the Satellite Cannon, and again when Garrod actually does.
  • Psychic Nosebleed: A variation: Jamil's ear starts to bleed when he tries to use telepathy to speak to Tiffa.
  • Title Drop: This episode's title is what Tiffa says to Garrod before she activates the Satellite System.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: The Satellite Cannon can annihilate entire armies with ease.
