Finn and Jake receive an invitation to a masquerade dinner, and things go bad when one of the guests gets possessed by a murderous ghost (the first Halloween Episode).

Tropes

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Cinnamon Bun tries to get with LSP after she reveals she broke up with Brad (again), but she gets mad and rejects him.
  • All Just a Prank: At first, the events of the plot start off as a prank Finn is pulling on Jake to get him back for a similar trick he had played on him. However, things start getting more real than Finn intended. It’s then revealed that Jake had found out about the prank beforehand and decided to pull one of his own with the help of Lady Rainicorn.
  • Atrocious Alias: The "mystery names" given to the guests at the party are all quite silly. For example, Lumpy Space Princess is Duchess Gummy-buns, Cinnamon Bun is Guy Farting, and Jake is Randy Butternubs.
  • Bedsheet Ghost: The "ghost" turns out to be Lady Rainicorn under a sheet.
  • Bilingual Bonus: When Finn expresses surprise that Lady Rainicorn can phase people into her body, her Korean response translates as "Of course. Jake and I merge our bodies into one all the time".
  • Bowdlerisation: In the initial broadcast, Jake and BMO find a cigarette lighter in the cellar, but for some reason this was re-edited to a glowstick. Jake's dialogue later still talks about a cigarette lighter.
  • Brain Bleach: Finn’s solution for dealing with the unexplained supernatural events that he experienced in the castle.
Finn: That one's going in the vault. Aaaaaaand... it's gone.
  • Call-Back: "The Creeps" references "Mystery Train" several times, like how Jake fooling Finn into thinking everyone on the train was dead, and using fake skeletons is mentioned, and that Jake's pranked Finn twice now.
Jake: I GOTCHA, dude! TWO FOR TWO!
  • Creepy Crows: The ghost makes a painting of a flock of crows come to life and attack Finn.
  • Darker and Edgier: It involves murder, frightening Family Unfriendly faked deaths and a creepy ghost.
  • Dope Slap: LSP gives one to Cinnamon Bun when he introduces himself with his real name instead of his mystery name.
  • Family-Unfriendly Death: Cinnamon Bun’s body gets smeared all over the walls, BMO gets taken apart, Bubblegum gets melted, and LSP gets trapped in a painting.
  • Gorn: Parodied with the dismembered bodies of Cinnamon Bun and BMO splattered all over the closet interior.
  • Halloween Episode: The first of a two parter involving this theme.
  • Haunted Castle: Finn and Jake go to a party held in a dark, spooky castle at the top of a mountain.
  • Hurt Foot Hop: Jake does this after he gets a splinter in his foot from the ghost throwing him and Finn into the staircase railing.
  • I'm Melting!: Princess Bubblegum appears to melt after the "ghost" flies through her.
  • Innocuously Important Episode: Due to it being the first appearance of Shoko.
  • Masquerade Ball: The initial set-up.
  • Nasty Party: The characters are invited to a party in a creepy house and apparently murdered.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: This one is a large, green ghost girl.
  • Parental Bonus: After Lady Rainicorn has temporarily absorbed LSP into her body, LSP says that she's "finally ready to be kissed" in a tone that implies that she found the experience sexually pleasurable in some way. (Also see Bilingual Bonus.)
  • Phantom-Zone Picture: LSP is apparently trapped in a painting.
  • Real After All: When Finn tells Jake about the frightening supernatural events that happened when he thought he was the only one left alive, Jake turns out not to have been responsible for them.
  • Sequel Episode: To "Mystery Train", though it has some more significant elements that come into light later on.
  • Shout-Out:
    • In the title card, each of the characters except for the dead Cinnamon Bun is holding one of the weapons from Clue. Also, the colors of the female characters' dresses have LSP as Miss Scarlet and sometimes mad-scientist PB as Professor Plum.
    • The characters being progressively murdered refers to And Then There Were None.
  • Something Only They Would Say: Finn tests that Jake is really himself by asking him who is always next to him in his recurring elevator dream. Jake answers correctly by saying “A half-orc shaman”.
    • Jake also attempts this on LSP by asking her why she broke up with Brad, but just because he wanted to know the gossip.
  • Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl: The real ghost appears as one of these with tentacles.
  • Ten Little Murder Victims: The apparent situation.
  • Toilet Humor: Finn, Jake, and Princess Bubblegum hear LSP screaming and saying “I’m dying!” from another room. They think the ghost has gotten her, but really she was just using the bathroom.
