I'm not really feeling like myself today...

After a disastrous day leaves her without a job and unable to afford taking her cat Cake to the vet, Fionna Campbell has to seek help from an unconventional source...

Tropes

  • Cliffhanger: The ending sees Cake jumping into a blue portal inside of Ice Queen's ice cream stand, which disappears soon after.
  • Defiant Strip: After Queenie fires Fionna from her tour guide job and demands she turn in her uniform, Fionna is angry enough to start taking her pants off in public before Queenie stops her.
  • Dream Intro: The episode starts with Fionna having a Sailor Moon-esque dream where she and Cake fight a rat bus to save the citizens inside, along with meeting a mysterious Ice Prince... before her alarm wakes her up, bringing her back to the real world.
  • Dumped via Text Message: During the intro, we see Fionna get dumped by DJ Flame via a text on her phone as she cries in the bathroom, before Cake swats the phone out of her hand and into the toilet.
  • Flipping the Bird: Fionna gives the British two-finger salute variant to Queenie after she's fired.
  • Hartman Hips: Fionna has noticeably larger hips than in the main series. This was most likely done to show how much older and mature she is now.
  • Lyrical Dissonance: The intro is an upbeat, sitcom-esque song with lyrics that talk about how utterly depressed Fionna is with her crappy life, outright saying she's a Stepford Smiler and that she feels like she wants to die when she leaves her room.
  • Psychological Projection: While Ellis P. is “visiting” Cake, Fionna theorizes some reasons why her cat is acting strange, but then she goes on a tangent where in reality she’s venting out her frustration towards her mundane life and her desire for turning it “more magical”.
  • Unique Pilot Title Sequence: As mentioned above; the regular opening would debut with the next episode.

"Fionna Campbell"

The intro the Fionna and Cake's first episode is a seemingly upbeat sitcom styled intro song with some very depressing lyrics about how meaningless and mundane Fiona's life is.

How well does it match the trope?
