Chapter 9: C.H.E.R.U.B

Lincoln finds himself in the middle when he and I.M.P go to war with a group of cherubs over a miserly old man.

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Alas, Poor Villain: As much as he doesn't like Lyle, Lincoln can't help but feel some level of sympathy for the old man when he sees he's become suicidal. Lincoln also can't help but feel bad for C.H.E.R.U.B. when they permanently get kicked out of Heaven for something that they didn't even mean to do.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • According to Lincoln, even his Mad Scientist little sister Lisa considers the immoral inventors Loopty Goopty and Lyle Lipton to be horrible people.
Lincoln: My little sister, Lisa, once told me that you were the most immoral, hazardous, avaricious, and disgraceful excuses of inventors in the history of technology. A great shame to the science community itself and a blight upon the world that it would be a much better place if you weren't in it.
(Everybody stares at Lincoln in shock over his unusual display of Brutal Honesty)
Lincoln: ... Those were her words, not mine.
    • Lincoln himself is an All-Loving Hero who desires to see the good in others, but even he thinks Lyle Lipton is Beyond Redemption.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Blitzo callously but nonetheless correctly points out that C.H.E.R.U.B never did anything to save Lincoln from Mr. Stillman when the young boy tries defending the group.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Loona points out that Loopty Goopty sounds kinda like Blitzo, a nod to the fact that they share the same voice actor in their series proper.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Blitzo doesn't think Loopty Goopty's reason for wanting Lyle Lipton dead is all that evil. When Lincoln and Moxxie point out the hypocrisy of this, Blitzo clarifies that he's just simply getting tried of clients having petty reasons for wanting someone dead.
  • Stating the Simple Solution/Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Lincoln eventually gets fed up with his co-worker's attempts to convince Lyle to kill himself and questions why they don't just simply kill him right then and there. Blitzo admits that Lincoln has a point, but messing with C.H.E.R.U.B. is much more fun.
