Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity
And in whose spirit there is no deceit.
For when I kept silent my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;
My strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.
I acknowledged my sin to you, and did not cover my iniquity;
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,”
And you forgave the iniquity of my sin.

''Peter approached Jesus and asked him, "Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?"
Jesus answered, "I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times."

"Always forgive your enemies — nothing annoys them so much."

"Forgiveness is the remission of sins. For it is by this that what has been lost, and was found, is saved from being lost again."

Please do not deplore yourself.
Even if the world does not forgive, I will forgive you.
Please do not deplore yourself.
Even if you do not forgive the world, I will forgive you.
So please tell me.
What will it take for you, to forgive me?

"Instead of forgive and forget, it should be forgive and remember. Remember that you may have to get up and forgive again tomorrow. And again, and again, and again, the way a heart keeps beating."
Augustus Hill, Oz

"To forgive is an act of compassion, Buffy. It's not done because people deserve it. It's done because they need it."

Aang: You do have a choice. Forgiveness.
Zuko: That's the same as doing nothing.
Aang: No, it's not. It's easy to do nothing. But it's hard to forgive.
Katara: It's not just hard... it's impossible.

Shrek: If I treat you so badly, then why did you come back, huh?
Donkey: Because that's what friends do! They FORGIVE EACH OTHER!
Shrek

"I believe you were saying that forgiveness is a hard thing but something ever to strive for. Were you not, captain?"

Jed Bartlet: (before having to call parents whose children were killed in a terror attack) On Yom Kippur you ask for forgiveness for sins against God. But on the day before Yom Kippur you ask forgiveness for sins against people. You can't ask forgiveness of God until you ask forgiveness of people the day before...

Eragon: Saphira, you haven't failed your duty. You may have made a mistake, but it was an honest one, and one that anyone might have committed in your position.
Saphira: That does not excuse my behavior to you.
Eragon: Saphira, family members forgive one another, even if they don't always understand why someone acts in a certain way. You are as much my family as Roran — more.
Eldest

Aunt Nanner: (singing) It's hard to say "I'm sorry".
Jelly: It's not easy to forgive.
Aunt Nanner: But those who know how to let it go know just how to live.
PB&J Otter song "It Works Both Ways" from "Forgive Me Not"

Franklin: I'll forgive you for losing Goldie, if you forgive me for being so rotten to you yesterday.
Harriet: We forgive us! (they hug)
Franklin, "Franklin Forgives"

"So even before Snotlout has a change in heart, before Snotlout does anything to "deserve" it, Hiccup forgives him. He forgives Snotlout again and again and again — not naïvely, for he knows his cousin might still be foul — but he sees inside Snotlout his potential good, sees in himself his own imperfections, sees the good that comes from treating another fairly... and finds within him goodwill rather than bitterness."

Asuka: I forgive you.
Shinji: (blinking) What?
Asuka: A betrayal for a betrayal. You betrayed me when you left me to fight alone and die... and I betrayed you when you needed me to help you the most, and you were still trying to help me. After all that you'd lost, watching Misato and me die, me yelling at you on that train-place... after all that you still asked to help me and stay with me. And I just told you "No". I hurt you and you hurt me, both at the worst possible times... we're even, Shinji. So I forgive you, for not being there at that battle... and I'm sorry for telling you "No" when you were so low, but still reached out to me. You really are... for me.

Depa: You can't... you can't just forgive me.
Mace: As a member of the Jedi Councilyou're right. I can't. As your Master, I won't. As your friend — as your friend, Depa, I can forgive everything. I already have.

Toro, I am humbled, for tonight I understand,
Your royal blood was never meant to decorate this sand.
You've suffered great injustice, so have thousands before you,
I offer an apology, and one long overdue.
Oh, I am sorry. Toro, I am sorry.
Hear my song, and know I sing the truth.
Although we were bred to fight,
I reach for kindness in your heart tonight.
And if you can forgive, oh, if you can forgive,
Love can truly live.
And if you can forgive, oh, if you can forgive,
Love will truly live.

Lord Chang: Do you think Heaven is forgiving?
Lady Lianne: Father?
Lord Chang: Do you have to barter for forgiveness? Or is it freely given?
Lady Lianne: I'd like to believe that forgiveness can always be given to those who ask for it.

"You're all the same, you screaming kids, you know that? 'Oh, look at me, I'm unforgivable!' Well here's the unforeseeable; I forgive you! After all you done... I forgive you."
The Doctor, Doctor Who, "The Zygon Inverson"

Ritsuko: Why... why 'r' you doin’ this? You have so many reasons to hate me... there'sh an entire tank of clones of you down there, just zho we can force you to keep coming back if you die, to make sure yur there when he needs you to end zhe world. I've stuffed you with so many drugs a normal girl would be dead shree timez over... And... Shinji and Asuka must... must hate me... Oh gods... they don’t know about... their mothers! Oh... oh no...
Rei: I believe they are figuring it out. I have avoided speaking about it out of... similar fears as yours. But yes, they hate you for how you have treated me. I am willing to forgive, because I understand. They are less forgiving.
Ritsuko: So why? Why help me?
Rei: Because I choose to. Asuka had no reason to care for me at all, but reached out to me. Now she is someone I love. She could have done nothing. She chose to help me. And it has made all the difference. So even if you are someone as burdened with sins as you, someone even she would hate, I will still help. There is no such thing as an unforgivable sin, if you are truly willing to try to earn redemption. And love makes everything worth it.

"There is always something left to love. And if you ain't learned that, you ain't learned nothing. Have you cried for that boy today? I don't mean for yourself and for the family 'cause we lost the money. I mean for him; what he's been through and what it done to him. Child, when do you think is the time to love somebody the most; when they done good and made things easy for everybody? Well then, you ain't through learning — because that ain't the time at all. It's when he's at his lowest and can't believe in hisself 'cause the world done whipped him so. When you starts measuring somebody, measure him right, child, measure him right. Make sure you done taken into account what hills and valleys he come through before he got to wherever he is."

Barbarella: Pygar! What did you save her for, after all the terrible things she's done to you?
Pygar: An angel has no memory.

Booth: Why didn't I stop her? Why didn't I stop my own mom?
Bones: 'Cause it's difficult. Isn't that what you said about my dad? How long did it take me to forgive him? You think I still don't get angry?
Booth: Maybe it's just simpler this way, Bones.
Bones: Is that what your religion says?
Booth: (sarcastically) Really? You wanna bring that into this conversation now?
Bones: The Jesus myth is all about forgiveness, isn't it?
Booth: It's not a myth.
Bones: Absolution, the ability to transform ourselves. So you grew up suffering. In the myth, Jesus suffered and he forgave those—
Booth: Not a myth.
Bones: Please, Booth! Water to wine, raising the dead, walking on water, these defy the basic laws of physics, but forgiveness, that's its value. That's why the myth has endured.

Bizarrogirl: Does self-punishment end, Supergirl?
Supergirl: It might never end, Bizarrogirl. We can be sorry for what we've done, be sorry for hurting others, but it's what we do afterwards that really matters. But if it does end, it will be because you look into a mirror... and realize you've already punished yourself enough.

"When I say I forgive you, know this
I did not bury the hatchet.
I have the hatchet in my hands.
I am building myself a new house."
Forgive Me my Salt, Brenna Twohy

"At one time or another, I was on the outs with a bunch of you. Sometimes the Avengers, sometimes the X-Men. Sometimes I had reason to be, sometimes... it was just my own stupid fault. Sometimes I was right, sometimes I was really, really wrong. But the thing... the thing I was most wrong about... was thinking that you, and you, and you, and all the rest of you, were anything but friends. You were there for me. I wasn't always there for you. I messed up. Big-time. With the drinking. I hope I've... put all that behind me now. Can you... forgive me? And can we all... still be friends?"

Gray: [Ultear] did a lot of terrible stuff. Ruined lives. Tried to kill us. Did kill a lot of other people.
Weiss: Oh. And... this is someone that you miss?
Gray: She was my master's daughter. And helped us out more than once. Is that such a surprise?
Weiss: I don't know. I know the guild believes that an enemy can become a friend. And I know that people make mistakes trying to do the right thing, it's one of the reasons I forgave Blake for whatever she might have done in the White Fang. But... when does it become too much? When do a person's actions become so horrible that their good intentions no longer matter? I'm not saying that you shouldn't mourn her, but... from the sound of it, what she did was unforgivable.
Gray: And yet, I forgave her. I can't speak for all the people Ultear hurt, but what I could forgive her for, I did. Because I wanted to. It's not justice, that's for courts and laws and that crap to decide. But forgiveness is personal. No one can make me forgive anyone and no one can say I can't forgive anyone. And the same applies to you, and your father.
Weiss: I don't want to forgive him. I won't.
Gray: Then don't. No one can decide if he deserves your forgiveness but you.

"I know what it feels like to be abandoned. You think that you're worthless and unlovable, and your heart hardens to the person who did it to you. Forgiving them is inconceivable. So know I have no right to ask for your forgiveness, but I still want to tell you... I'm sorry."

I've been tryin' to get down
To the heart of the matter
But my will gets weak (1 & 3) / But everything changes (2) / Because the flesh will get weak (4)
And my thoughts seem to scatter (1 & 3) / And my friends seem to scatter (2) / And the ashes will scatter (4)
But I think it's (1, 2 & 3) / So, I'm thinkin' (4) about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don't love me anymore
— "The Heart of the Matter" (all chorus variants shown), Don Henley

Met by Saint Jon the Archangel in the writhing pits of hell, the beast was pinned, prone on the floor. He had taken many forms throughout the ages. From the creator of man to the far reaches of the universe, his perpetual reincarnations reigned throughout space and time… until now. His form was weak, the opposition strong. The time for atonement had finally come.
Battered, torn, exposed, the beast slacked his gaping maw.
"I'm sorry, Jon" he whispered.
The archangel raised his flaming blade.
"You are forgiven, Garfield."
And the beast exhaled his last.

Yet his King spake kindly (ah how kind a lord!)
"What if I release thee now, and give thee back thy sword?"
"Nay!" said the Baron, "Mock not at my fall!
For iron, cold iron, is the master of men all."

"Tears are for the craven, prayers are for the clown,
Halters for the silly neck that cannot keep a crown.
As my loss is grievous, so my hope is small,
For iron, cold iron, must be master of men all."

Yet his King made answer (few such Kings there be!)
"Here is bread and here is wine — Now sit and sup with me.
Eat and drink in Mary's name, while I do recall
How iron, cold iron, can be master of men all."

He took the wine and blessed it. He blessed and broke the bread.
With his own hands he served them, and presently he said:
"See these hands they pierced with nails, outside my city wall
Show iron, cold iron, to be master of men all!"

"Wounds are for the desperate, blows are for the strong,
Balm and oil for weary hearts all cut and bruised with wrong.
I forgive thy treason — I redeem thy fall —
For iron, cold iron, must be master of men all!"
