- Private Alice and Private Bob are both soldiers on the front line, and they get married in the lull between battles. The military Chaplain officiates their wedding in the ruins of a bombed-out chapel in a town their unit just secured.
- Private Alice and Private Bob get married in the middle of battle, shouting out their vows to each other over the din of combat while hacking down enemies.
- Downplayed:
- Alice and Bob get married, but they are weapons engineers rather than combatants - they're in no danger of being killed by the enemy.
- Justified:
- Private Bob knows if he dies while he and Alice are married she'll be given a pension to survive on.
- Private Bob and Private Alice know either of them might die, but they'd both rather enjoy the time they have together no matter how brief it might turn out to be.
- Any single soldiers will be given one month to marry a person of their choosing. Any who does not after the month elapses will be assigned a spouse by the Army.
