Basic Trope: The villain appears to be a perfectly normal person.

  • Straight: Emperor Evulz dispatches a minion who appears to be a friendly, mild-mannered man or woman.
  • Exaggerated: The villain literally looks exactly the same as any other person.
  • Downplayed: The villain mostly looks normal, but dresses in a way that subtly hints at their true nature.
  • Justified:
    • Only Six Faces
    • The villain wants to avoid standing out so as not to hinder their plan.
    • The villain is still a human, and thus looks like one.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted: The villain initially looks normal, but something unexpected happens that clues others in.
  • Double Subverted: ...but then it turns out they weren't actually clued in.
  • Parodied: ??
  • Zig Zagged: ??
  • Averted: The villain looks distinct from other characters.
  • Enforced: The author wants to create more suspense by having their villain appear to be a normal person.
  • Lampshaded:
    • "But they look just like anybody else!"
    • "Its her? How? She looks so normal compared to her teammates!"
    • "Who said I need to look terrifying to be terrifying?"
  • Invoked: The Eldritch villain has glamoured himself to look like he's of the same species as the beholder.
  • Exploited: ??
  • Defied:
    • The villain (and by extension the writer) is aware of the potential advantage they could get from this, but opts to go the traditional route anyway.
    • Whatever Eldritch evil the villain allies himself with, it immediately grants him some kind of extremely visible, meaningful, identifying marks (most probably on the face) the very second he even thinks of making the alliance (and makes them worse when the alliance is fully made) because it does not believes in being subtle.
