Basic Trope: Tolerance of having to sit in seiza style, which is about kneeling, sitting on one's heels, and crossing one's own feet, determines the gracefulness of a character.

  • Straight: The Yamato Nadeshiko and Honest Corporate Executive of the MegaCorp, Hillary Young (it's a Naturalized Name, it's Hikari Wakamono), and The Idiot from Osaka and Annoying Younger Sibling Flash Young (Senko Wakamono) both sit in seiza, and it's clear that Hillary is definitely the more graceful of the two siblings, as once the two stand up, Hillary's legs function just fine while Flash falls flat on his face.
  • Exaggerated: Hillary can sit and meditate without even sleeping for hours in the seiza. Flash, on the other hand, comically fumbles around and can't even get into the correct sitting position. It's clear who's the graceful one and who's the crass one.
  • Downplayed: The difference between the siblings are not as explicit, though it's a difference.
  • Justified:
    • Hillary was taught how to do this since she was little. Flash wasn't.
    • Hillary is naturally flexible. Flash isn't.
  • Inverted: The Yamato Nadeshiko and Honest Corporate Executive of the MegaCorp, Hillary Young and The Idiot from Osaka and Annoying Younger Sibling Flash Young both sit in seiza, and while Hillary may definitely be the more graceful of the two siblings, once the two stand up, it's Flash's legs that function just fine while Hillary herself falls flat on her face.
  • Subverted:
    • As it turns out, Flash isn't as clumsy as he's expected to be. When the two get up, Flash actually stands up with no problems.
    • As it turns out, Hillary isn't as graceful as she's expected to be. When the two get up, Hillary stumbles with some problems.
  • Double Subverted:
    • He proceeds to fall flat on his face. Seems like the sitting had really taken a toll on him...
    • She proceeds to correct herself mid-stumble. In fact, this actually may be how she normally stands up.
  • Parodied: Hillary sits in seiza all the time, even on a chair. She doesn't get any leg pains from this. Conversely, the moment Flash even manages to finally settle into seiza (and it took him a whole damn lot of hours to even get into the proper seiza position, if not a comically half assed variant of seiza that shows how lazy he is at even bothering with etiquette), his legs begin screaming and begging (perhaps literally) for him to get up.
  • Zig-Zagged: The two siblings' gracefulness and ability to sit in seiza tends to be oscillating a lot.
  • Averted: The two siblings are equally capable of sitting in seiza with equal clumsiness and equal grace.
  • Enforced: It's an Establishing Character Moment for the Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling, with Flash as the Foolish Sibling, being whiney and immature, and Hillary as the Responsible Sibling, being calm and mature.
  • Lampshaded:
    • "It takes a certain kind of grace to sit in such a prim and proper manner."
    • "An' it sure as hell takes a certain kinda' clumsiness t'have yer legs fall asleep in that damn position!"
  • Invoked: The two siblings are asked to sit in seiza in order to find out who's the mature one and who's the not-so-mature one.
  • Exploited: In an interview, the two siblings are asked to sit in seiza, and the fact that Hillary can remain in such a painful position is a clear sign that she deserves the job and Flash doesn't.
  • Defied: Flash takes painstaking efforts to learn how to properly sit in seiza in order to not make an ass out of himself once he actually gets to sit in the position in front of others.
  • Discussed: "I hear that the gracefulness of a person depends on if they can sit in seiza and not feel pain." "If that's the case, then Hillary is definitely deserving of her reputation as a Yamato Nadeshiko while Flash is definitely deserving of his reputation as The Idiot from Osaka."
  • Conversed: "Ah, so the mature one is the one who can sit like that while the immature one can't? Makes sense, though I don't know if being unable to sit for hours in a painful position without complaining should be considered immature, considering my legs would literally go to sleep if I did that."
  • Implied: Hillary and Flash are mentioned to be at some important business meeting within their home, but after that, once they walk, Hillary struts without any complications while Flash is struggling to walk, stumbling and limping like a jackass, as if his legs are barely even clinging to life.
  • Played for Laughs: Hillary and Flash are sitting seiza. While Hillary can get up without a problem, she's forced to carry Flash, who can't even move due to how dead his legs feel.

Hey, I tried doing the Seiza Squirm and uh... My legs fell asleep.
