Basic Trope: The hero and the villain square off on top of a roof.

  • Straight: Harry Hero and Victor Villain fight on a roof of a building.
  • Exaggerated: Harry and Victor fight on the rooftop of the highest skyscraper in the city.
  • Downplayed: Harry and Victor fight on a high balcony.
  • Justified: It's a very crowded city, and Harry wants to keep civilian casualties to a minimum. The rooftop doesn't have any people, and is an ideal spot for performing a Disney Villain Death.
  • Inverted:
    • The fight takes place in an Absurdly Spacious Sewer.
    • The entire story takes place on roofs or in the air, but the climactic fight happens at ground level.
  • Subverted: Harry confronts Victor on a roof, but they start chasing each other through the city streets instead.
  • Double Subverted: ...only to end up on a roof when they encounter each other next.
  • Zig Zagged: The citywide chase takes them to many rooftops and streets in succession.
  • Parodied: "Victor, is it time for our battle? Want me to take the elevator, or should I go for the Building Swing to meet you?"
  • Averted: The fight doesn't take place on any particularly high place.
  • Enforced: "What's a good place where the characters can maneuver in cool ways without harming others? Duh, a rooftop!"
  • Lampshaded: "You really like roofs, don't you, Victor?"
  • Invoked: Victor challenges Harry to meet him on the rooftop for their climactic battle.
  • Exploited: Victor tosses Harry off the roof during their fight.
  • Defied: Knowing Victor will want to fight him on the roof, Harry demands he meets him on solid ground instead.
  • Discussed: "It's like those fights in superhero comics. Squaring off on the roof, the wind in your hair..."
  • Conversed: "Hey, another superhero movie. They're fighting on the roof again."
  • Played for Laughs:
    • Harry gets stuck in elevator traffic trying to meet Victor on the roof for their climactic battle.
    • The residents of the building they're fighting on get annoyed and kick them off the rooftop.
  • Played for Drama: Harry is scared of heights, so the rooftop fight is a dramatic experience for him.
