Basic Trope: A character uses a fake pregnant belly for some purpose.

  • Straight: Alice wears a fake pregnant belly to smuggle escape supplies to her jailbird husband Bob.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice literally just has a pillow up her shirt. Nobody suspects a thing.
    • Alice, who appears so pregnant she can barely fit through the door, arrives to visit her husband Bob. The guard is surprised by how big she is, but she tells him she's expecting dectuplets. And by that she means she has two shotguns, three C4s, a hacking tool, a Spy Catsuit, a pair of night vision goggles and two bags of dynamite for Bob, all hidden in a bag inside her giant maternity smock.
  • Downplayed: Alice smuggles supplies to Bob in a fake belly that's not large enough to make her look pregnant.
  • Justified:
    • Alice intends to earn sympathy points from the guards, making them drop their guard and allow her to toss the supplies to Bob quickly.
    • Alice's character Gabrielle is supposed to be pregnant for the scene.
    • Little Alice is curious about her mother's pregnancy.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted: Alice is pregnant.
  • Double Subverted: But not enough to be showing yet.
  • Parodied:
    • Police coming knocking at Bob and Alice's door, inquiring about a recent jewel theft. The hugely pregnant Alice lets them and the two let them search the place. They don't find anything and leave. Once they're out of sight, Alice takes off her maternity smock and reveals that the stolen jewels were hidden in her fake belly. Bob then says, "Man, we're gonna need to remember to pull that off every time the pigs come knocking on our door after us bad kids rob yet another place."
    • Alice's Pillow Pregnancy is actually her way of smuggling beer into a show. A security guard catches her, removes the prosthetic, then hands her back the beer, but tells her she shouldn't drink when pregnant.
    • Jack and Charlie use a pillow and Totem Pole Trench to disguise themselves as their pregnant mother Alice to visit their sick older sister Jane in the hospital.
    • Bob wears a fake pregnant belly to smuggle escape supplies to his jailbird wife Alice.
  • Zig-Zagged: Alice wears a pregnancy prosthetic sometimes when she goes out, but not all the time.
  • Averted: Alice's bump is real.
  • Invoked: Bob sends a letter to Alice, telling her to disguise herself as pregnant on her next visit and smuggle the escape supplies in the prosthetic.
  • Exploited: Alice isn't up to nefarious business per se, but she is not above using the appearance of pregnancy to gain favours.
  • Defied: "You can stop playing, I can tell your belly's fake."
  • Played for Laughs:
    • Alice sneaks Bob escape supplies using her fake belly, which a guard witnesses. Rather than arresting her, he just mutters "It's the tenth one today, why bother?" and gets another doughnut.
    • Alice arrives to visit Bob without looking pregnant. She reveals that she's carrying a empty bag under her clothes. Bob exclaims, "But there's nothing in it! How am I supposed to get out now?" Alice replies "Simple!", then pulls Bob through the bars, stuffs him inside the bag and pulls her shirt over it. A nearby guard congratulates her on her pregnancy as Alice escapes the prison with Bob under her clothes.
  • Implied: Alice has an enlarged abdomen in one scene, then a normal-sized one in her next, with no hint of a Time Skip or childbirth.
