Go To

Basic Trope: A character gives birth offscreen by simply going to the hospital and coming back within a few minutes.

  • Straight: Alice is about to have her baby, and disappears and comes back within 30 minutes.
  • Exaggerated: Alice is gone for two seconds.
  • Downplayed: Alice leaves and comes back in a few hours; a remarkably short time for someone to give birth, but not extremely unlikely.
  • Justified: Alice is a being that can give birth in a remarkably short amount of time.
  • Inverted:
    • Alice leaves to give birth, and is gone for a whole of two days before finally coming back.
    • Screaming Birth, where the details are shown onscreen.
  • Subverted:
    • Alice reveals that she actually wasn't pregnant - she was planning on adopting a baby instead.
    • The time Alice took to give birth only seems short because of a Time Skip.
  • Double Subverted: For the second subversion: It actually took a very short amount of time.
  • Parodied: Alice outright says, "Oh yeah, I'm gonna go have my baby now. I'll be back in a few minutes."
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • Nobody gives birth.
    • If someone does give birth, it takes a reasonable amount of time.
  • Enforced: "Alice giving birth isn't very important to the plot, let's just have her leave for a few minutes and then come back with the baby."
  • Lampshaded: "Well, that was quick."
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "Why do characters take so short of a time to give birth?"
