Basic Trope: Despite changing a character's equipment, they only wear their default equipment in cut scenes.

  • Straight: In Tales of Troperia XII, you have outfitted your party with Godslayer Blades and Titan-Forged Armor which they are seen using during normal gameplay. However, during cut scenes, they use their default iron weapons and leather armor.
  • Exaggerated: The customized equipment shows up absolutely everywhere else, even loading screens and menu backgrounds, except the cut scenes.
  • Downplayed: Equipped weapons will be shown in cut scenes, but the armor is still the default.
  • Justified: All cut scenes are flashbacks, so the party's current equipment wouldn't show up.
  • Inverted: Custom equipment only shows up in cut scenes, not in standard gameplay.
  • Subverted: Custom weapons can be seen sheathed in the cut scenes while the character uses their default weapon, while custom armor can be seen under their default armor.
  • Double Subverted:
  • Parodied: One cut scene begins with the party hastily stripping out of their custom armor and tossing their custom weapons down to change into their default equipment.
  • Zig-Zagged: The party does not have their custom equipment in the first several cut scenes...but then it is revealed that those cut scenes are actually flashbacks, so they wouldn't have that equipment. However, after a certain point in the game, the cut scenes are no longer flashbacks...yet the party still has their default equipment.
  • Averted: Anything your party has equipped will show up in cut scenes.
  • Enforced: Animating the cut scenes with custom equipment is more time consuming and expensive, so the producers demand that the dev team simply animate them with each character's default equipment.
  • Lampshaded: Quirby says to Hiro during a cut scene battle "man, we would have won by now if we were using our best equipment! Why did we change back to these old rags, anyway?"
