Basic Trope: A character (mostly female) is mistaken for a prostitute.
- Straight: Alice wore somewhat light clothes in a rough part of town, and Bob walks up to her, asking how much he should pay for an hour in bed. Turns out Alice wasn’t a prostitute.
- Exaggerated:
- Bob meets several different women, who all dress fairly normally, and asks each of them how much he should pay for an hour in bed.
- Alice goes outside wearing a dress that doesn’t cover her knees. She is promptly arrested for soliciting sex in public.
- Bob propositions Alice right after she was somehow stripped naked in public.
- Alice is a Shameless Fanservice Girl who was walking around nude. She is offended and slaps Bob when he propositions her.
- Downplayed:
- Bob privately wonders if Alice is soliciting.
- Bob mistakes Alice for a madam.
- Justified:
- Bob has a massive Madonna-Whore Complex
- Alice says a lot of Innocent Innuendos, dresses quite loosely, and generally could be reasonably mistaken for a prostitute.
- Bob is at a brothel.
- Inverted:
- Need a Hand, or a Handjob?
- Bob is mistaken as looking for a prostitute.
- Bob is mistaken for a pimp.
- Subverted: Bob looks like he’s asking for sex, but he’s actually asking for her to drive him somewhere.
- Double Subverted: When they get in the car, then he asks for sex.
- Parodied: Bob keeps asking Alice (in a public place where everyone is watching) how much he should pay to sleep with her, but it’s only through innuendos that Alice doesn’t understand (but everyone else around him understands).
- Zig Zagged: Bob wonders if Alice is a prostitute, but doesn’t show it, until she says something that makes it seem so, which she later corrects.
- Averted: Bob doesn’t assume anything about Alice.
- Enforced: The author thought it would be funny.
- Lampshaded: “Hey, Bob, not every woman you meet is a hooker, you know?”
- Exploited: Alice takes the money but doesn’t sleep with Bob.
- Defied: Bob makes sure to be more cautious in making assumptions
- Invoked: ???
- Discussed: “You would be surprised how many people mistake me for a prostitute”
- Conversed: “Bob should get his mind out of the gutter”
- Deconstructed: Alice gets visibly furious with Bob over the mistake, and is very offended by what she thinks Bob thinks of her
- Reconstructed: Bob apologizes, and the two plan to move on from this moment.
