Basic Trope: The Theme Park Version of prehistory.
- Straight: Cavemen, dinosaurs, and various prehistoric beasts all live together at the same time.
- Exaggerated: The cavemen are all Dumb Muscle who talk in Hulk Speak. Every cavewoman is a Nubile Savage who wears a Fur Bikini and looks like she just walked out of a modern-day hair salon. The dinosaurs are all Slurpasaurs. Every third mountain is a volcano, and small meteors fall often enough to be considered a form of weather.
- Downplayed:
- There are no dinosaurs, but the cavemen still follow the old Hollywood stereotype.
- The are no cavemen, but the dinosaurs are still scaly, tail-dragging beasts living in a land of jungles and volcanoes.
- There are dinosaurs and primitive people in the same place, but they are all represented in a scientific accurate way (such as cavemen being lithe and with great teeth), despite the anachronisms.
- Justified:
- Someone used Time Travel to bring dinosaurs forward in time to the Stone Age.
- The setting is a Lost World that happens to be visited during the Stone Age instead of during the present day.
- Inverted: Instead of dinosaurs, cavemen live alongside anachronisms from the Present Day.
- Subverted: It turns out that this is not the past, but a future that comes about After the End.
- Double Subverted: Except it's still our past. The civilization that fell is a previously unknown civilization that existed long before ours.
- Parodied: In addition to dinosaurs, the cavemen encounter humorous anachronisms from various time periods.
- Zig Zagged: It's never clear where or when this "prehistoric" setting really is.
- Averted:
- The Paleolithic is portrayed accurately.
- The Mesozoic is portrayed accurately.
- Enforced: The Meddling Executives insisted that the caveman movie had to include dinosaurs because Everything's Better With Dinosaurs.
- Lampshaded: "I thought dinosaurs were extinct by now. Oh, well."
- Invoked: There are many jokes on the show about the age of the really old guy Bob. In one episode, Alice mockingly asks him if he ever rode a pterodactyl when he was a kid.
- Exploited: The cavemen use Domesticated Dinosaurs to make their lives easier.
- Defied: The Time Police prevented the dinosaurs from being moved out of the Mesozoic.
- Discussed: As they walk out of their Time Machine into the Pleistocene, Alice tells Bob that they will find no dinosaurs here.
- Conversed: Bob and Alice are MSTing an old caveman movie, pointing out all the inaccuracies in the process.
- Implied: The cavemen investigate a huge fresh footprint. It looks like a dinosaur's footprint, but we never find out for sure what left it.
- Deconstructed: Prehistoric humans just can't compete with dinosaurs. The human race goes extinct.
- Reconstructed: Despite the difficulties, prehistoric humans manage to survive in a world with dinosaurs.
- Played For Laughs: The "modern Stone Age family" lives in a prehistoric recreation of present-day society, complete with Domesticated Dinosaurs, Bamboo Technology, and so forth. They have a catchy theme song too.
- Played For Drama: The cavepeople have to fight for survival against ferocious dinosaurs.
