Basic Trope: Attacking yourself and your enemy, when you're immune to the attack.
- Straight: Alice is immune to fire, so she defeats Bob by pulling them both into a burning building.
- Exaggerated: Alice has the oddly specific power of being immune to nuclear blasts, so she sets one off when the situation passes the Godzilla Threshold.
- Downplayed: Alice is wearing a gas mask and drops a tear gas canister to escape.
- Justified:
- Alice's ability is fairly unique, so it's a good way to catch her enemies off guard.
- Bob's only weakness is fire, and Alice can't generate it herself.
- Inverted:
- Bob sets the building he and Alice are in on fire as part of a Wounded Gazelle Gambit.
- Bob takes advantage of Alice's weaknesses instead.
- Bob hides a throwing knife in a fireball. This allows him to hit Alice with it (as as far as she knows, it's a fireball she can safely ignore).
- Subverted:
- It turns out that Alice is only partially resistant to fire, so she's still in danger.
- Bob is also immune to fire, so the attempt fails.
- Double Subverted:
- She's still more resistant than Bob.
- Bob needs to breathe, though, and Alice has scuba gear.
- Parodied: Bob suffers from hayfever. Alice pulls him into a sunny meadow.
- Zig Zagged: The scene in question can't make up its mind if Alice is putting herself in danger or not.
- Averted:
- Alice only uses her immunity to fire to shrug off attacks.
- Alice is not immune to fire, not even the one generated by her own attacks. As a result, she really needs to be careful when she uses them.
- Enforced: Alice is a Technical Pacifist, and can't be shown killing Bob directly.
- Lampshaded: "I'm fireproof, you're not." "Ron Perlman said it better, Alice."
- Invoked: Alice started the fire for the purpose of pulling Bob in.
- Exploited:
- Alice's friends start the fire while she and Bob are in the house.
- Bob is fed via fire and Alice doesn't know this. All he has to do is wait for Alice to try this in desperation...
- Defied:
- Alice wants to bring Bob in alive.
- Bob knew this would happen, and brought a fire extinguisher.
- Discussed: "Is this going to be like one of those things where the invincible super hero pulls the villain into molten lava or something?"
- Conversed: "Ooo, I know! Since fire can't hurt Alice, let's set her on fire! She'd be unstoppable." "...no!"
- Implied: A mook with a Firebreathing Weapon sneers that he has a fireproof suit, and Alice doesn't when she warns him they're in a forest. She rolls her eyes and is seen carrying the mook's shredded suit later.
- Deconstructed: While Alice is immune to fire itself, she isn't immune to smoke inhalation or burning debris.
- Reconstructed: Alice knows this, however, and brings along armor and a breathing apparatus.
- Played For Laughs: Alice just sits down and begins filing her nails while Bob starts freaking out.
- Played For Drama: Alice was immune, but several of her friends weren't. The fact she survived the fire without a scratch has made a lot of people quite suspicious of her...
