Playing With: Distressed Dude
Basic Trope: A male character is held captive.
  • Straight: The bandits trap Hans in a net, and his party members Jack and Ivan have to bust into the camp to get him out.
  • Exaggerated:
    • All the men in the kingdom are captured by a sorceress, and Princess Eulalie has to organize enough women to rescue them.
    • Right after being rescued, Hans is captured again after the party turn their back for one second.
  • Downplayed: Bartholemew, the Big Guy, is targeted by a Zerg Rush because of his size, and Edmund and Matilda have to fight over to him to keep him from being overwhelmed.
  • Justified: Hostage or ransom value.
  • Inverted: Damsel in Distress
  • Subverted: When Jack and Ivan get to where Hans is held, he betrays them and reveals he was working with the bandits to lure them into captivity.
  • Double Subverted: The bandits' wizard had enchanted him — and several others; when Ivan breaks the spell, they greatly outnumber the bandits who had joined voluntarily, and overwhelm them.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig Zagged: Depending on the episode, either one of the guys is being captured, or they are saving the day.
  • Averted: The Big Bad tries to capture Hans when he's alone. A beatdown ensues.
  • Enforced: "Hans looks like the Boring Invincible Hero; let's have him captured to take him down a peg."
  • Lampshaded: "Seriously, Hans? How many times are you going to have to have your girlfriend come rescue you?"
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited:
    • The bandits took Hans alive to draw his party after him.
    • Prince Michel let the bandits take him alive in order to rouse the king's fury, after the king has been ignoring the way they prey on peasants.
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
