Basic Trope: A soldier enjoys war.
- Straight: Bob doesn't go to the battle field with regret, he enters with a Slasher Smile, because of his enjoyment.
- Exaggerated: Bob joined the military for pure joy, and goes far enough to move out of countries if they don't go to war.
- Downplayed: Bob enjoys war, but he also cares about the country he is fighting for.
- Justified:
- Bob joined the military specifically so he could kill people and get away with it.
- Bob enjoys fighting alongside his True Companions, and joining the military is the quickest way to gain one.
- Bob joins the military and kills for the sake of his personal glory.
- Inverted: Bob, a Technical Pacifist, was drafted. Even though he's a soldier, he hates war and killing.
- Subverted:
- Bob walks out on to the battlefield with a Slasher Smile, but as soon as he has to kill someone, he breaks down mentally.
- Bob's sadistic bravado is a coping mechanism, a Jerkass Façade hiding a Shell-Shocked Veteran.
- Double Subverted: ...but after killing no longer fazes him, the Slasher Smile finds its way back.
- Parodied: A high school football player has this kind of attitude.
- Zig Zagged: Bob enjoys some battles, but is horrified by others.
- Averted: Bob is a regular soldier.
- Enforced:
- "We need a bad guy in the military that loves fighting and stirs up trouble."
- It's a Military Instructional Film on identifying these psychos. Recruiters are mandated to watch it once per pentad.
- Lampshaded: "You seem to enjoy shooting at terrorists a bit too much."
- Invoked: Bob is sent to the front because he loves fighting.
- Exploited: ???
- Defied: Anyone who expressed this attitude is quickly discharged. (or, as per Enforced #2, kicked out of the recruitment office)
- Discussed:"Alice is worried about Bob. He seems to enjoy fighting a little too much, man's eyes would light up at the sound of gunfire."
- Conversed: ???
- Implied:: Bob doesn't outright say he likes to fight, but he doesn't seem too upset afterward.
- Deconstructed: Bob is a sadist, and he doesn't really care who he kills. He's inclined to turn on innocent civilians or even his own squadmates if it suits him.
- Reconstructed: Bob keeps his sadistic urges in check by focusing them on the enemy. This keeps him from harming innocents.
