Basic Trope: A newcomer is treated badly for no reason.
- Straight: Paul is a newcomer to a group of heroes who don't treat him with any respect or kindness. The only person who likes him is Alice.
- Exaggerated: Every team member hates Paul to the point of finding any way to get rid of him.
- Downplayed: While they don't outwardly antagonize Paul, the others are often wary and doubtful of him.
- Justified:
- Paul is a replacement of the heroes' old teammate who was killed during a mission. They didn't take this well.
- Paul formerly worked for Emperor Evulz, but despite him switching his alignment, the others won't forgive or forget about his crimes.
- Paul turns out to be more skilled than they are, which made them jealous.
- Paul is from another group of people whom they believe are evil or inferior.
- Inverted: Paul is a newcomer who is a Jerkass to the heroes, despite them welcoming him in open arms.
- Subverted: Paul is treated with disdain, but after saving their lives, they have a change of heart and sincerely apologize for giving him a hard time.
- Double Subverted: Even after all of that, they still treat him like crap no matter what.
- Parodied: One of the rules of the job is that newcomers must be abused and mistreated for a year, and treated warmly after that.
- Zig Zagged: ???
- Averted: The other members treat Paul warmly.
- Enforced: ???
- Lampshaded: "It really sucks to be the new guy."
- Invoked: "Oh, great. It's the new guy. Let's start harassing him because we have nothing better to do."
- Exploited: Emperor Evulz notices how Paul is treated badly by the heroes and convinces him to join his side.
- Defied: Alice makes sure the others treat Paul warmly:Alice: "Just because he's new doesn't give any of you the right to mistreat him. If all of you want to be called heroes, then act like them by treating Paul the way you want to be treated, or so help me, I'll treat all of you the way you don't want to be treated!"
- Discussed: "I don't get the hatred for newcomers. People ought to know better than this."
- Conversed: "I hope the heroes have to show Paul some respect by the end of the season. If not, I'm done watching."
- Deconstructed: After being mistreated by the others one times too many, Paul lashes out at them all and quits the group. This was enough for him to join Emperor Evulz just to spite those who never given him the time of the day. Bonus points when Evulz and his minions treat Paul better than the heroes did.
