Basic Trope: Someone points out some bad stuff, only to reveal they love it.

  • Straight: Bob sees Alice's new car, which is very rusty and dirty. He says, "Look at this car! It's so dirty and rusty, the steering wheel has some gloops on them, and the seats have so much plastic! It's so beautiful!"
  • Exaggerated: "The tires are all flat, there aren't even any seats, the floor is covered in feces, and the roof is falling apart! It should be in a museum! It's so beautiful and majestic!"
  • Downplayed: "The car is slightly rusty, the seats are filled with some ants, and the steering wheel is unstable! I like it, but it could do some work!"
  • Justified:
    • He doesn't know what these mean.
    • He's a mechanic looking for a challenge.
  • Inverted:
    • "The car is so clean, there are a lot of spare tires, and you can even open the roof! How could you buy this, Alice?! It's so bad!"
    • Bait the Dog, orally.
  • Subverted: "I love it! Wait... there are so many bugs on the floor! I hate it now!"
  • Double Subverted: "Wait, the radio only has one radio station? I love it again!"
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: As Bob notices stuff about the car, he alternates between loving it and hating it.
  • Averted: "I hate your new car, it's so rusty and dirty!"
  • Enforced: Rule of Funny
  • Lampshaded: "I thought you were gonna say you hate it."
  • Invoked: Claire, Bob's best friend tells Bob to purposely tell Alice he loves her new car for a prank.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: "Bet you're gonna say you love the car after listing the bad things the car has."
  • Conversed: "Hey, he did the thing where he lists the bad things and he says he loves it. Seen that in a lot of sitcoms."
