Basic Trope: Badass, heroic barbarian.

  • Straight: The Big Guy Claidheamh in Tales of Troperia is a Brave Scot and a rather barbaric and crass fellow, toting around a huge claymore, being capable of taking down anyone in either a fisticuffs brawl or a sword fight, and is one of the best warriors out there.
  • Exaggerated: Claidheamh is the World's Strongest Man and the World's Best Warrior, and he's practically a caveman!
  • Downplayed: While Claidheamh is rather wild and vicious, he's still surprisingly civilized for a barbarian, as he knows the basic societal fundamentals.
  • Justified: Living in the wild tends to make you stronger as a result; Conversely, living in a society makes you weaker as a result.
  • Inverted:
    • Claidheamh is a badass, villainous barbarian. While he's just as badass as one would expect, he's definitely one who nobody would wish to mess with lest they enrage him and meet the business end of his sword.
    • The Hero Sir Robert is a badass, heroic knight, having chivalrous ideals, and can take down anyone in a duel.
    • Sir Robert is a badass, villainous knight. While he's just as badass as one would expect, he's definitely one who nobody would wish to mess with lest they enrage him and meet the business end of his sword.
    • Claidheamh is a scrawny weakling whose only good traits is being an uncannily good runner.
    • Sir Robert is a fat weakling who can't really do much other than give orders and look stern.
  • Subverted: Claidheamh is revealed to be a scrawny, wee bairn with an oversized sword.
  • Double Subverted: He grows up to be a mountain of muscle a year down the line.
  • Parodied: Claidheamh is a Barbarian Hero in a High Fantasy, where normally a Farm Boy would be the protagonist. He tends to be a complete Lower-Class Lout at times, driving just about everyone up the wall with his ludicrous antics, to the point where the Evil Overlord would prefer getting captured to being in the same room as HIM.
  • Zig-Zagged: Claidheamh's barbarism tends to be Depending on the Writer.
  • Averted: Claidheamh, as a barbarian, is comedically average.
  • Enforced: Rule of Cool.
  • Lampshaded: "Tae crush me enemies, tae see them all driven before me, tae rob them of their wealth, an' tae hear the lamentations of their beloved... That is what's best in life."
  • Invoked: Claidheamh chooses to live a life of barbaric hunting and gathering in order to become stronger as a result.
  • Exploited: Claidheamh has a much, much better immune system than those he faces off as a result of his barbaric lifestyle in contrast with them having to live with the overcrowding, godawful nutrition, and unsanitary hygiene, and as a result, he's essentially one who just has to outlast his easily tired enemies before coming in for the kill.

Enemies? Crushed. Them driven before you? Seen. The lamentations of their women? Heard. Not being listened to? Then to hell with you!
