Basic Trope: The thing that is the source of all hero's powers.

  • Straight: With the Heart of Dragon, Bob can fly, breathe fire and turn into giant dragon. Without it, he's just an Ordinary High-School Student.
  • Exaggerated: Heart of Dragon grants Bob the Amoeba ability to turn into fifty different beasts, Einsteinesque intelligence, flight, force field creating skill and ability to teleport.
  • Downplayed: Heart of Dragon allows Ordinary High-School Student Bob to understand language of dragons.
  • Justified: The Heart is where all dragon powers are set and to access his powers, dragon must have his Heart. Therefore, if Bob has Heart of Dragon, he has access to dragon powers like any regular dragon. Before he got the Heart, he was just a nerd and regular student, so he has nothing to fight evil apart from Heart's powers.
  • Inverted: Heart of Dragon is Power Nullifier of Bob, sorcerer with severe case of Power Incontinence.
  • Subverted:
    • Heart of Dragon is described as artifact that grants his user immense magic power. Upon obtaining it, though, it turns out to be Power Nullifier.
    • Heart of Dragon is Bob's Magic Feather.
  • Double Subverted:
    • However, it turns out that shutting out Bob's inner magic allows him to manipulate much more powerful Wild Magic that otherwise can't be sensed through white noise of inner magic.
    • Those few hours Bob used his powers without the heart were just him running on residual energy that has now run dry, as planned by General Drake.
  • Parodied: Overcame with power of girly-pink, jelly-bear-shaped Heart of Dragon, Bob yells "I'm the Master of the Universe" and rises his hand to unleash Heart's power... and it shines harmless, pink light.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Bob is half-dragon, so he doesn't need the Heart of Dragon for anything.
  • Enforced:
    • Entire Dragon Suit was too uncomfortable for Bob's actor to move in, so costume department settled on small trinket that he can wear on his neck.
    • The Heart of Dragon is much safer to turn into a toy than say, the Blade of Dragon.
  • Lampshaded: Emperor Evulz, Bob's nemesis, gloats that without the Heart of Dragon, Bob is nothing.
  • Invoked: Creators of Heart of Dragon deliberately closed all the powers in the crystal so that there would be easy way to dispose of somebody who would become too power mad.
  • Exploited: Evulz steals the Heart of Dragon, knowing that without it, Bob is nothing.
  • Defied: Bob is injected dragon's blood so that he won't be reliant on Heart's powers.
  • Discussed: Bob and his sister Alice discuss the implications of Bob losing the Heart of Dragon.
  • Conversed: Alice mentions a show where the source of small kid's Super-Strength was a tiny ring.
  • Implied: Bob has a small, heart shaped pedant. Every time he's seen with it, he kicks Evulz's ass like a boss. Every time he's seen without it, school bullie Charlie beats the crap out of him. The pedant is never alluded to, though.
  • Deconstructed: Under the nickname Dragonheart, Bob gained respect and became The Earth's champion who promises he'll always be there. When accident breaks the Heart of Dragon, he loses all his powers, becomes powerless and is called on his inability to help. Now being one of the powerless muggles, he suffers a nervous breakdown.
  • Reconstructed: Bob manages to reforge the destroyed Heart of Dragon and defeats Evulz, becoming Earth's champion once again.
  • Played For Laughs: Bob is repeatedly shown as beloved savior of Earth, surrounded by squealing fangirls, when with Heart of Dragon on, and comically shy nerd who can't lift a bottle of water without back pains, when without it.
