Production

  • A deleted ending scene had Magnifico not only eat the wishes but say that he used only to do it in times of desperation, indicating that destroying wishes was a more common occurrence than in the finished film. Additionally, with every wish eaten he grows more feral and powerful until he's a snarling humanoid beast-man with Volcanic Veins, Power Echoes, and superhuman strength and magic, and even Amaya and her cat are afraid of him.

Film

  • The first Wish Ceremony we get to see is chilling right down to the bone. After the 2 new residents give up their wishes, Magnifico says in the creepiest way, "It's a real weight off, isn't it?" At first, these two people who have just had their memories of a core part of themselves erased look a cross between pained, horrified, and heartbroken. Then someone calls out, "Forget without regret!", and the crowd starts cheering, causing both of them to weakly smile. It suggests the description everyone in town pushes of you don't even miss your wish after you're made to forget it is just everyone playing along with what everyone else expects and accepts while feeling as empty as Simon does.
  • Magnifico's Villain Song "This Is The Thanks I Get?!" shows him ranting to himself about his "benevolence" before growing increasingly unhinged as the music grows more unsettling.
Magnifico: I didn't wanna do this!
I swore I'd never do this!
But I'm hypnotized by how these pages flip
'cause I refuse to have my power stripped!
    A potion? A spell? A summon? A curse?
Anything to make that light reverse!
To this book, I don't wanna be tethered,
but desperate times call for desperate measures!
    • In the last part of the number, Magnifico furiously begins attacking the tiny figurines he conjured up earlier, destroying them with magic blasts, bashing them with the magic book, and chasing them down, all while the clearly terrified figurines are trying to get away. All the while he continues to scream "This is the thanks I get?!" as his voice grows louder and more snarling. Now bear in mind that the figurines were meant to represent the people of Rosas...
    • Magnifico's final freakout where he destroys the figurines is directly witnessed by Asha, who was hiding in the office while she tried to escape with Sabino's wish. Just imagine if Magnifico had found her...
  • Magnifico barging into Asha's house to steal Star's power and crushing her family's wish right in front of her.
Magnifico: That's right, Asha. You've been turned in. Now, where is it? Where's the star?!
Sabino: There's nothing here for you!
Magnifico: How'd you do it? Huh? What sorcery did you use?
    Asha: I know no sorcery!
Magnifico: You ripped a star from the sky and used it to steal from me!
Asha: The wishes don't belong to you! You were never gonna grant my Saba's wish! And he deserves to have it back! They all deserve—
Magnifico: I told you, I decide what they deserve!
Sakina: Please, Your Majesty! She made a mistake. She won't do it again.
Magnifico: Oh, I know she won't. (pulls out a wish orb from his robe) Does this feel familiar, Sakina?
    Sakina: My wish!
Magnifico: Yes! Your wish that you gave to me for safekeeping. 'Cause we all know what happens to wishes out in this... this real world. They get crushed! (clenches the wish and destroys it in a burst of green smoke. Sakina winces in agony and collapses to the floor)
    Asha: Mama!
    Sabino: Sakina! NO!
Magnifico: (gazes at the Sickly Green Glow emitting from his palms, with a demonic smirk) Ooh... What's this? What a gift! All this time, I've protected the wishes not knowing... the power they yield! I feel as if I can do... anything!
  • Dahlia and Queen Amaya frantically searching the Forbidden Book for a way to remove the dark magic from Magnifico—only to learn he's too far gone for any hope of salvation.
Amaya: He's become practically untouchable. No metal can break his staff, no spell can bind his magic!
Dahlia: And no one can bring him back from this. (reads from book) "Embraced forbidden magic just once, and you commit to it for eternity."
  • A now insane Magnifico using his powers to scare off the citizens, making it look like his magic is terrorizing them.
  • Rosas' Darkest Hour, where Magnifico successfully captures Star while torturing Asha, chaining down the citizens with dark magic, and blasting anyone that tries to stand up to him, including his wife, as he maniacally says that he won. A Recipe for Adventure states that he tortured Asha to the point of death, which was only fixed with the light from everyone's hearts.
Magnifico: There'll be no wishing on stars ever again! In fact, there'll be no more hope, no more dreams, and no escape! No chance to rise up! No one to tell any tales! No one to challenge me ever again! You... are...NOTHING!
  • King Magnifico's fate at the end of the film. He's trapped inside a small mirror in the dungeon forever.
    • The implication that he's now akin to the slave in the Magic Mirror in Snow White makes his Fate Worse than Death even more horrifying: he will slowly lose his identity, be forced to tell the truth all the time, and essentially becomes a slave to the queen.
