This is the live-action debut of CARNAGE, a symbiote-possessed murderer and one of Marvel's darkest supervillains. As a result, this film is positively soaked in Nightmare Fuel.

  • Carnage's appearance in the film is nothing short of nightmarish: killer tentacles, predatory eyes, barbed tongue, and skin that resembles bruised flesh. His jaw is also more triangular, like that of an allosaurus, and subtle details like that make him look more monstrous than Venom.
    • His movements differ heavily from Venom's, being an incredibly erratic and swift monstrosity that can't move an inch without destroying something along the way. One shot shows him rampaging down a hallway, as a hideous crawling mass of red smashing holes into walls.
    • His transformation is this as well! Traditionally, Cletus turns into Carnage by having the symbiote envelop itself over his body, like Venom. Here however, his body literally transforms — as in "he injected the G-Virus into himself" transforms; his body horrifically warps and mutilates itself into Carnage's shape, and is not only fully alive by the end, but more noticeably seems to feel no pain in the process. Cletus is so detached from humanity that even his own body violently mutating into an abomination doesn't elicit even a grunt in pain.
  • Carnage is born in this universe when Cletus bites Eddie's hand hard enough to draw blood. As Cletus ingests the blood, he realizes there was something alien in Eddie which has now infected Cletus, which terrifies him, but only because he knows what blood tastes like, and what Eddie has in his veins is not normal blood.
  • The fact that Cletus seems to know very personal details about Eddie’s life, particularly his childhood. What’s even creepier is that, while a savvy viewer would know Carnage inherited Eddie's memories through Brock, we never find out how he knew the things he knew before becoming Carnage.
  • The depiction of Cletus as a child, done like drawings in a kids' book. He killed his grandmother by pushing her down a flight of stairs, and then threw a blow dryer into the bathtub with his mother in there to electrocute her. He then takes a drill to his dog. Just like the comics, this man is evil incarnate.
  • One of the first things Cletus does when he breaks out of San Quentin is murder a homeless man for his clothes, and then drive to a gas station and murder the completely innocent store clerk inside by stomping his head in in order to gain access to his computer. Yeesh.
  • After leaving Eddie, Venom starts jumping to new hosts... none of whom can take him for very long. How many bodies did Venom leave across San Francisco trying to find someone who could handle him like Eddie?
  • The Stinger. Venom explains that Symbiotes have a Hive Mind and that the full extent of their knowledge would be far too much for Eddie's human mind. After Eddie takes up Venom’s offer to be shown a fraction of their knowledge, something inexplicable changes in their hotel room, with unnatural yellow lights piercing their window and an earthquake seemingly happening. When it's all done, Eddie and Venom alike are freaked out, and discover that while they are in a similar room, several things have changed. And then they see the news report...
Venom: That... guy. [licks the television screen]
    • Let's put this in perspective: Venom has just been transported to an Alternate Universe. The first person he sees is Spider-Man who, bear in mind, thanks to The Snap is technically still 15/16. And his first instinct is to lick the screen. Given the symbiote's borderline Yandere obsession with Peter in the comics, this might not bode well for Spidey.
  • Early concept art of Shriek shows that her mouth was originally going to open unnaturally and grotesquely wide whenever she uses her power.
  • Carnage's roar. MOTHER OF GOD, HIS ROAR. It's pure nightmare fuel. Hear it if you dare...
