The series may revolve around the happiest place on earth, but it can certainly induce terror from time to time.

- Maleficent's entrance in the first book. The kids are sitting in a teepee when suddenly they hear feet shuffling. Everything goes silent, the temperature drops, and a scratchy voices ominously tells them that she knows they're there. On paper it sounds like something out of a horror movie.
- The OTKs being controlled by Maleficent, Tia Dalma, and the Evil Queen inject a large dose of Paranoia Fuel into the plot. These villainous operatives could be anywhere, or anyone. They stalk the Kingdom Keepers almost everywhere they go, and based on how Finn's mother behaved in Book 5, most of them aren't even in control of themselves and are helplessly Fighting from the Inside as they're forced to watch themselves commit untold crimes against their wills in the name of helping a bunch of fictional villains Take Over the World. And the worst part is that some of them submitted to this willingly!
- The Overtakers's master plan in The Insider: their ultimate goal is to essentially blow up Disneyland leaving Minnie Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Rapunzel, Olaf, Dumbo, and all the rest to burn to death in fiery agony while the villains celebrate their victory from a safe distance. And when the dust settled, they planned to rebuild Disneyland In Their Own Image before possibly moving on to Take Over the World. Feel free to imagine how much more horrifying the ending of Book 7 would be if the Kingdom Keepers hadn't saved the day.
- Zombie Maleficent in Legacy of Secrets. From Jess's descriptions: Her shoulders are slanted to one side like Quasimodo, one of her legs is shorter than the other, her eyes aren't level on her face, and her head looks like it's been sat on and squished. Jess even describes her as moving like a female Frankenstien monster that had been assembled by a five year old. Time will tell if this is only temporary and if Maleficent still retains her mind, but the description alone is still gruesome.
- The Traveller. A necromancer of unknown origin who laid the foundations for the origins of the Overtakers. Every scene he's in is guaranteed to leave chills running down your spine.
- As if he couldn't be even more nightmarish, it's implied that he may actually be the Devil himself.
- Likewise for the zombies he creates during his grave-robbing spree. They aren't the slow moving kind, or the kind that eat brains. They're just rotting, walking corpses that also happen to be unstoppable killing machine.
- The Legacy of Secrets' attack on Disneyland in Disney at Last. They're not just sabotaging a few rides. They're setting off fireworks in crowded places trying to kill innocent people and cause as much damage and destruction as they possibly can. And they were going to frame an innocent man for their own crimes if they hadn't been stopped.
