Nightmare Fuel / Rakenzarn Frontier Story

Go To

Caution: Unmarked spoilers ahead!

Rakenzarn Frontier Story is definitely Darker and Edgier than Rakenzarn Tales, and it shows... with several examples of Nightmare Fuel.

  • The monster from the prologue. Whatever that... thing is, it looks absolutely horrifying and is implied to have killed off a team of Realmwalkers, with only Daffy and Luigi as the sole survivors.
  • In Chapter 1, Kyoko tries to investigate what happened when Makoto nearly got killed, citing that both 'accidents' are too good to be a coincidence even by Makoto's standard. Too bad the culprit is none other than a bounty hunter from another timeline... and he knows she's watching him. Kyoko manages to escape with her life, but gets is gravely injured in the process.
  • When Naegi and Lion are in an alternate universe of Fire Emblem: Fates, they stumble across a village destroyed by Hans and his goons. The whole village is littered with dead bodies. Goes to show the horror of war.
  • Hans' death. While we don't get to see it, the way Naegi describes his death is unnerving: Getting burned alive to a crisp is a lot more terrifying than his original counterpart's death.
  • The very concept of the Beholders. If the Beholder is killed by anything or anyone outside their universe, their own universe will die out. Makoto Naegi was very close to death when he got teleported away. Had Solo killed him that night, the entire Danganronpa alternate universe would die out. With that in mind, how many alternate universes have the bad guys destroyed?
  • Chapter 4. By far the darkest chapter of the entire game due to what we see Naegi, and how very different he is from his main counterpart. Doesn't help that it tackles some of the more uncomfortable subjects:
    • As we see through Naegi's psyche, we see how much of a wreck he is. People constantly belittle him, make him the butt of jokes and it's implied that they also compare him unfavorably to his own sister. He's even once considered taking his own life. Is it a wonder he develops such insecurity? And the fact he hides it very well behind his smile?
    • And where would he try to go where he take his own life? None other than Aokigahara, due to its forest setting.
