Helluva Boss, on the surface, may be nothing more than a quirky little Black Comedy series about the daily lives of the employees of an assassination business operating out of Hell, aiding the damned in taking revenge on those who wronged them. However, considering that this show is not only made by the creator of Hazbin Hotel, a show already packed full of horrifying terrors, but also shares a universe with it, it's not all that surprising to see moments like these on this show... though it somehow manages to up the scares and psychological frights fourteenfold.
Just goes to show that as much as Blitzo hates to admit it, an assassin's job is never easy...
General
- The very fact that in this universe there exists a service in Hell where damned sinners can put hits out on living people they had grudges against, from deranged Asshole Victims to innocent bystanders, is a terrifying thought. There's no telling if, or when, somebody you slighted even lightly before they eventually went to Hell might decide they hate you enough to pay I.M.P to murder you.
- Blitzo's complete disregard for privacy and personal space more often than not crosses into the realm of the criminally inappropriate.
- Whatever you do, do NOT fuck with Moxxie if there is even the slightest chance Millie will find out or can retaliate. Otherwise, bad things will happen. Very, very, VERY bad things. The same applies if Stolas could possibly find out someone dared mess with Via.
- While it may not be a traditional Fire and Brimstone Hell, Hell is still...Hell. It is a lawless place with lawless people who are the very definition of toxic (with the notable exception of Charlie and Moxxie), only looking out for themselves or paying lip-service to some greater devil for personal gain. As shown in Hazbin Hotel, it is a place where gang warfare is treated as a spectator sport and every manner of vice is indulged. One can even say that it is a toned-down version of Commorragh or (to a lesser extent) a Bloodier and Gorier version of the Grand Theft Auto universe.
- Stella's already a walking nightmare, but anytime she raises her voice, it rasps and cracks in a way that sounds appropriately demonic.
Pilot
- The montage of I.M.P murders during their jingle is more than a bit disturbing.
- One guy getting stretched on a torture rack.
- Another guy in the ocean about to be eaten by a shark that I.M.P is riding.
- Someone struggling in a noose that Blitzo is holding the other end of while Moxxie, holding the chair, watches with glee and Millie forges a suicide note.
- Someone being burned alive with a flamethrower and gasoline. (And a match Millie throws on that probably didn't do anything)
- Blitzo smothering someone in their sleep with a pillow while everyone's eyes glow in the dark.
- Blitzo playing piano on top of a crushed corpse.
- And I.M.P shocking someone to death with an electric chair.
- And the final line: "Kids die for free". Despite the team trying to take care of Eddie initially, the fact that they have little qualms about killing children without charge goes to show how demented I.M.P is.
- Loona wants a cure for syphillis. That probably means she was sexually assaulted.
- A shot from Moxxie's perspective as he blearily wakes up to a terrifying close-up of Blitzo.Blitzo: (whispering) Whatcha dreamin' about?
- The song "Oh Millie" is so disturbingly heartwarming and cool to listen to that it's easy to forget it's about a pair of married demon assassins who love what they do for a living. Moxxie also mentions that he loves seeing his wife gruesomely kill their targets.
- Blitzo also has no qualms against voyeurism, either. A quick change of the camera angle shows him shamelessly filming Millie and Moxxie through the window without any attempt to conceal himself.Moxxie: Are you fucking filming us right now?!
- Stolas' censored sexual rant to Blitzo, as funny as it may be, shows what a depraved and possibly psychopathic creep he is, despite his noble appearance. Before that he was calmly ordering Blitzo to kill a climate change activist and thus sentencing tons of humans to death on the chance they go to Hell because he felt lonely.
- Even though Eddie was a total dick, watching a child get shot, dismembered, ripped open with a chainsaw, shoved into a bag, and then get handed back to his mother is still a pretty horrific sight.
- A small moment, but in the news broadcast at the end where IMP drop the sack and its... questionable contents into the arms of Eddie's mother, all the headline says is 'MOM SUCKS AT DRAWING OWN KID'. The idea that even in the human world, the news is more interested in mocking a grieving woman's drawing skills over a potentially dead child is very disturbing.
