Majestica is a Symphonic Power Metal band based in Boden, Sweden, fronted by tenor vocalist and guitarist Tommy Johansson.

Originally known as ReinXeed (pronounced like "rain exceed"), the group began as a solo project by Johansson that over subsequent albums expanded into a musical trio. They released six albums from 2008 to 2013 but remained relatively obscure.

In 2005, though, Johansson was playing the latest new releases disc from Sweden Rock Magazine and came across a song called "Primo Victoria" from another Swedish group, Sabaton. He got to know the band members, and in 2012, following most of the musicians leaving the group, Tommy was asked to join the band as a guitarist. At the time, he declined because ReinXeed seemed to be taking off, but following a slow period after the release of A New World in 2013, Tommy did join them in 2017, replacing Thobbe Englund.

In 2019, the band, now reduced in scope to a side project due to Johansson's full-time commitment to Sabaton, was renamed Majestica and signed to Nuclear Blast Records. They have released two albums to date.

In 2024, Tommy announced he was leaving Sabaton to refocus his attention on Majestica full-time.

Tropes:

  • Call-and-Response Song: "Ghost of Marley" is a duet that alternates lines by Scrooge (played by Tommy) and Jacob Marley (played by Chris). The chorus goes:
Marley: Tell me why you doubt your senses
Scrooge: None of this is real, it cannot be
Marley: Now you're running out of chances
Scrooge: Spirit, tell me more, or leave me be
Marley: These chains were forged in life by our
Everybody: Act of greed, can't you see? Yours will come
Marley: Now your last chance for redemption
Scrooge: Marley, my dear friend, let me go in peace
  • Metal Scream: Tommy lets out a good one on the intro to "Above the Sky".
  • Rock Opera: A Christmas Carol retells Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol as a Power Metal album, with many of the songs' melodies being medleys of common carols.
  • Power Metal: Fantasy-focused lyrics, fast beats and guitars, higher-pitched clean male vocals, the works.
  • Singing Voice Dissonance: Tommy's speaking voice is pretty deep, but he usually sings in a tenor range, although he can go as low as a baritone.
  • Symphonic Metal: The band uses a lot of orchestral music sampling in their backing tracks, and Tommy's singing voice tends to have a fairly operatic quality to it.
  • Updated Re-release: A Christmas Carol: Extended Edition, released November 2021 with two additional tracks.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Tommy's speaking voice is fairly deep and gruff with a relatively thick Swedish accent. As a singer he's an operatic baritone capable of some pretty impressive high notes.
  • Yet Another Christmas Carol: A Christmas Carol is a Rock Opera retelling of the Dickens story set to medleys of classic Christmas carols, with Tommy mainly playing Scrooge.

Majestica - "Ghost of Marley"

Majestica's eighth studio album A Christmas Carol retells the Dickens story as a power metal opera. Here, frontman Tommy Johansson plays the role of Scrooge in his fateful encounter with the condemned ghost of his business partner Jacob Marley.

How well does it match the trope?
