To some, musicians. To others, heroes. (From left to right, The Seer, the Keeper, the Weaver.)

"In the beginning there was light and darkness. A creation of perfect balance. But as time passed, evil spread throughout the land like a plague, slowly consuming everything in its path. In the final moments before light was lost to the shadow for all time, a weapon of infinite power was created, thus restoring balance to the universe. And so it was, and shall always be, whenever the need is great, we call upon the power of...
the MAGIC SWORD."
—Narration from "Herald"

Magic Sword are a trio of synthwave musicians hailing from Boise, Idaho. Formed in 2013, what sets them apart is their high fantasy theming, calling back to '80s fantasy films and the soundtracks accompanying them. Their music accompanies a story told through a series of comics, detailing the story of the three guardians and their journey to protect the universe from great evil, utilizing the power of the eponymous Magic Sword.

The trio's first appearance accompanied their first album, titled Magic Sword: Volume 1. Singles from that album include "The Way Home" and "In the Face of Evil", both of which would feature in Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, and the latter would also be used in trailers for Thor: Ragnarok. An Updated Re Release of Volume 1, the Deluxe Edition, released in 2016, featuring four remixes from other artists.

Magic Sword: Volume 2 would release in the form of several separate albums, Legend in 2016 Awakening in 2019, and Endless in 2020. Badlands, a "side adventure" focused on the Keeper, released in 2023.

Magic Sword consists of three members: The Keeper of the Magic Sword, in red; The Seer of All Truths, in yellow; and the Weaver of all Hearts and Souls, in blue. They are never seen without their cloaks and masks, and any speaking appearances utilize heavy filtering; making them relatively anonymous. Fans play into the fantasy theming as well, sometimes bringing their own swords to concerts.

Tropes displayed in the tales of the Magic Sword:

  • Balance Between Good and Evil: The universe is made of equal parts light and darkness. An instability in this balance, caused by the spread of evil, spurned the creation of the Magic Sword in order to restore the balance before it threatened the universe.
  • The Chosen One: The Immortals are eternally searching for the one able to wield the power of the Magic Sword without being overwhelmed by it. Though the Sword has always appeared to those in great need, none have been able to resist the allure of its power, and become addicted to the glory it provides. The Keeper, time and time again, must step in to cut down those who refuse to release the Magic Sword, hoping that one day, he will find the one who will be able to wield it properly.
  • Concept Album: All of Magic Sword's releases are this by default, as they're tied with the story.
  • Cool Sword: The Magic Sword itself.
  • Humanoid Abomination: The Immortals. Most apparent with the Seer and the Weaver, as under their cloaks are a mass of tentacles and spider limbs, respectively. The Keeper, on the other hand, looks the most human; but their entire body is wrapped in cloth, and what lies under has yet to be seen.
  • Power Trio: The Immortals form one.
