Hot Mulligan is an Emo band from Lansing, Michigan.

They are notable for the distinct vocal style of lead singer Tades Sanville, and for their strange naming conventions for songs.

'Tropes'

  • Addiction Song: "It's A Family Movie She Hates Her Dad," among others
Blackout; am I better now? I saw my family off their face when I was graduating.
Getting high before noon, your sister stole your pills again
  • Album Title Drop:
    • Honest and Cunning on the track "I'm Turning To O-Positive"
    • You'll Be Fine on the track "Analog Fade (New Bule Sky)"
    • I Won't Reach Out To You On "Featuring Mark Hoppus"
    • Why Would I Watch on the track "No Shoes In The Coffee Shop (Or Socks)"
  • Cover Version: Of Taking Back Sunday's "MakeDamnSure."
  • Grief Song: "Betty," written for Tades' beloved pet rat.
  • Harsh Vocals: Tades' vocals have been described as "larynx-shredding." He's even gone on record on reddit stating that he believes he has about 5 years of performing left, due to the damage his singing style does to his voice.
  • Insistent Terminology: Hot Mulligan is not an emo band, they're the creators of Post-Emo.
  • Non-Appearing Title: Constantly. In fact, there's only two songs in their entire discography that have the title appear in the lyrics.
    • Doesn't happen at all until 2020's You'll Be Fine, and even then it's a technicality. The song is titled "BCKYRD,' but the full word (Backyard) is said in the song.
    • Happens again on I Won't Reach Out To You on the track "Losing Days."
  • Vocal Tag Team: Lead vocalist Tades Sanville handles most of the vocals, but pretty consistently has back and forth vocals with guitarist Chris Freeman. Chris even gets to Step Up to the Microphone fully with the song "Green Squirrel In Pretty Bad Shape."
