High school is tough at the best of times
Kotaro is 15 years old, and excited to start his first year in high school until he learns about his whole family passing the entrance exams he also took. He will have to adapt with going to school with his family (including his cat, Gomez).
High School Family (Kōkōsei Kazoku) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Ryo Nakama. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from September 2020 to February 2023.
High School Family has examples of:
- Always in Class One: The high school family starts off studying in the same class. In the second year, they all study in the same class again, this time with their own friends
- Book Dumb: Ichiro & Shizuka started working after middle school and starting high school in their 40s made them very rusty at homework.
- Child Prodigy: Haruka, an 8 year old who is taking an accredited high school course.
- Commonality Connection: Kotaro connects with his classmate Yashiki due to both of their family issues (the former having his family going to school with him, the latter's mother is the vice principal, who is distant due to an argument).
- Foreign Exchange Student: One chapter has the family welcoming a new student from America
- Gag Series: With the premise of a teenager's whole family deciding to go to high school with him, it's clear that this is a series that doesn't take itself seriously at all.
- Jock Dad, Nerd Son: Downplayed with Ichiro & Kotaro, the former is athletic even for his age, while although the later is never as obsessed with fitness at the start, he later joins the tennis club just to impress a girl he has a crush on.
- Slice of Life: The story focuses on Kotaro's everyday life at school...which also includes his family members going to school with him.
- Supreme Chef: Shizuka Ietani, she served homemade gelatin cups in the first day of school to break the ice with her classmates and make deserts that is a hit with the café in their 1st year Cultive Festival.
