Deus ex Machina is the common term for a trope in which something not previously established (originally, a god) suddenly appears to resolve the plot. It's an old enough term that it's used here in the wiki. It's also surprisingly punnable, and that's what's going on here.
Tropes following this pattern:
- All Just a Dream
- Ass Pull
- Deus Ax Machina
- Deus ex Machina
- Deus ex Nukina
- Deus ex 'Scuse Me
- Deus Exit Machina
- Deus Sex Machina
- Diabolus ex Machina
- Diabolus ex Nihilo
- Good Fortune from God
- Not Too Dead to Save the Day
- Parent ex Machina
Not conceptually related:
- Ave Machina: Worship of a machine.
- Deus Angst Machina: A character's backstory has ridiculous amounts of trauma.
- Deus est Machina: An Artificial Intelligence that ascended into becoming a Physical God.
- Deus Ex Homine: A mortal becomes a god.
