Light Novels

  • The Great Adventures of the Dirty Pair's "The Case of the Backwoods Murder"note :
    • Madam Isabella Standalf, real name Isabella von Russel, is the daughter of Professor Peter von Russel and the ruler of the gambling planet La Mer. Having been abandoned by her family and raised as an abused prostitute, Standalf climbed the criminal ranks after killing a rich client, murdering her pimp afterwards to become an independent criminal. Gaining control of La Mer by marrying the current chairman of the planet’s casino association, Standalf also charmed her way into becoming a member of the crime organization Lucifer, despite being a hereditary syndicate. Killing von Russel after he showed disappointment in her life choices, Standalf bribed the La Mer police to keep the case closed, and even swapped von Russel’s DNA with someone else’s to ward off outside suspicion. Seeking revenge on the galaxy for giving von Russel and his Space Smasher a negative reputation, Standalf uses the Smasher to hold La Mer hostage, and despite her siblings Tuono and Lucia shutting the device down, Standalf renders their progress moot immediately afterwards by rebooting it, hoping to die upon the Smasher’s activation with hope that she and her father will be remembered well.
    • Gaston is Isabella Standalf’s loyal, affable right hand. A large, hulking, cybernetic bodyguard who displays a professional level of intelligence and commitment, Gaston assists his madam in her grand scheme, including burning down the apartment containing the Pair and a detective while leaving few options of escape; torturing Tuono and Lucia after catching them sneaking into Standalf’s home; and nearly catching the Pair in a high speed chase by gaining control of his own limousine. Dearly devoted to Standalf, when she sacrifices herself upon the Space Smasher’s activation, Gaston breaks through her barrier at the cost of his lower body to die by her side.
