Go To

Rogues is an online CYOA written by EndMaster and found on ChooseYourStory.

It is a Stealth Sequel to Innkeeper, an earlier story by the same author.

The story follows the life of a rogue when he leaves his home village of Teckleville after killing someone who attacked his girlfriend. The story is very heavily branched, and depending on the path, the reader can run into everything from vampires to drug dealers, wizards to pirates, researchers to nymphomaniac elves.

There is also an entire planned path for the Rogue's sister to be added at a later date, but the story is not incomplete without it.

Examples of tropes in Rogues include:

  • Canine Companion: Annah's dog little dog Checkers is nearly always by Annah's side from the time she gets him until his death. He even attacks on her command.
  • City Guards: The city guards are considerably troublesome for you in Klyton, as they not only arrest the main character sometimes or cause trouble for the local gangs, but they guard the gates to the city and often require bribes in order to let people through. In Holgard, they are generally too busy with all the religious conflict to cause you and the other criminals in the city much trouble.
  • Doorstopper: At 538,057 words and 1,209 pages on Word, it will take some time to read through it all.
  • Hookers and Blow: In one non-epilogue ending, the main character grows fat and lives a hedonistic lifestyle of drugs and sex until he dies.
  • Human Traffickers: Hessla being a port city frequented by pirates and other criminal types, the main character may encounter human traffickers on his visits there. In one path the stagecoach driver brings you and the researcher you are with to a hotel that is a front for human traffickers, and the researcher you are with is kidnapped and Made a Slave.
  • Mob War: A major theme throughout most branches of Rogues. Between the Ebony Claw Syndicate, the Crimson Talons, and the other criminal organizations you can run into or be a part of, mob wars are a recurring event in various paths of the story, and which side you are on depends upon which path you take. Holgard especially is plagued with them, on account of the religious wars and corruption keeping the city government occupied.
  • Our Ghouls Are Creepier: Ghouls are disgusting undead who are very obsessive over the vampire that creates them and are prone to eating disgusting things. In some of the Holgard paths you have the opportunity to turn Lisa into a ghoul.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Tanya and yourself in some paths, on account of her demon heritage. While the main character remains obsessed with Tanya, and it seems she keeps a soft spot for him too, ultimately they cannot be together.
  • Religionof Evil: The cult of Neroth practices human sacrifice and is full of all around degeneracy.
  • The Syndicate: The Ebony Claw Syndicate is a powerful and very territorial force across various nations and city states.
  • Thieves' Guild: In the Holgard path, the main character can join and even the head of a thieves guild that is headquartered there. While it started off as a loose organization with certain benefits such as not having to pay extra for a fence, once the Ebony Claw Syndicate moved in and became more powerful, they started recruiting members more aggressively.
  • Twincest: In one path, the main character finds that he has slept with his twin sister unknowingly at a masquerade orgy.
  • Wife Husbandry:
    • The main character in one path raises a young girl names Mara after her prostitute mother never comes back one night. He insists to others that their relationship is that of father and daughter until, in one path, they end up in a romantic relationship with one another.
    • Garrick's affection towards Tanya borders on this.
