Light on Quests Mountain was the 12th book in the Endless Quest Gamebook series, and the first of two based on the Gamma World RPG.

The player controls Ren, a young adult in a post-apocalyptic world. As part of their trial of adulthood, he and his friends Chark and Sars must make a journey to the foreboding Quests Mountain. Theirs will be unique, as their journey will also involve trying to find the source of a strange light given off on the mountaintop.


Light on Quests Mountain provides examples of:

  • Big Brother Mentor: Ren's older brother Jen, who went missing on his own journey to the mountain but who can be found and reunited with the family.
  • Defeat by Modesty: One ending involves you returning to the village in ignominious defeat because members of a rival tribe stole all your stuff—including your clothes.
  • Multiple Head Case: You can meet an Orlen, the two-headed woman on the cover.
  • Shifting Sand Land: One route you can take to Quests Mountain goes through the aptly-named Sand Lands.
  • The Smart Guy: Sars, your lizard friend. He even manages to have Nerd Glasses after the apocalypse!
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Both of your other party members have a specific fear: Sars is afraid of the dark, and Chark's afraid of water.
