Ace of Spades is a novel written by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé about two Black students at a mostly White American private school.
At Niveus Private Academy, everyone is perfect. At least that is what it seems. Devon Richards is a young musician attending Niveus. Devon hopes for a career in music one day and plans on applying for a Scholarship to attend Juilliard after High school. He comes from a working-class background and lives in a rough neighbourhood. He’s also one of the only two Black students at Niveus. The other Black student is Chiamaka Adebayo. Unlike Devon, Chiamaka comes from a wealthy family and is the Queen Bee at Niveus. Neither have ever spoken before and both have different ambitions; Devon plans on attending Juilliard and doing something with Music one day, while Chiamaka hopes to attend Yale and become a Doctor one day. However, when an anonymous cyberbully named “Aces” begins spreading incriminating things about Devon and Chiamaka, they must work together to find out who “Aces” is and what their obsession with each other is.

Not only that, but Chiamaka knows full well that Ruby despises her secretly, and the feeling is completely mutual. However, the pair set aside their differences and pretend to be friends to stay popular. Ruby acts as Chiamaka’s second-in-command for popularity reasons entirely, and Chiamaka uses Ruby as a way to learn about gossip.
