Devon
Devon Richards
A Black student from a rough neighbourhood who attends the prestigious Niveus Private Academy. He is a talented Musician with high hopes of attending Juilliard once he graduates High School. He is unpopular and only has one friend, who has recently begun to distance himself from Devon. His single mother works hard to pay his rent and to support Devon and his two younger brothers. Devon would prefer being just part of the crowd, but when he becomes the target of an anonymous cyberbully called Aces, he is thrust into the limelight, and not for good reasons.- All of the Other Reindeer: Devon wasn’t well-known so they thought, only having one friend. However, he wasn’t necessarily an outcast. at least not until the end reveal.
- Big Brother Instinct: Loves his younger brothers very much and has had to look after them when his mother is too busy working. He’s protective of them.
- Straight Gay: He isn’t suspected of being Gay until his sex tape with Scotty is leaked.
Chiamaka
Chiamaka Adebayo
A wealthy Black student who isn’t afraid to get what she wants. The daughter of two wealthy Doctors, Chiamaka has high aspirations of attending Yale once she graduates High School. And that means getting the perfect grades, taking the perfect extra curricular activities, behaving herself and being generally stuck-up. And she must do all this while maintaining her status as the ruthless Queen Bee at Niveus. However, when she becomes a main target of an anonymous cyberbully called Aces, things start falling apart.- Academic Alpha Bitch: Chiamaka isn’t just the Queen Bee, she’s also a Straight A student. She even has hopes of attending Yale.
- Alpha Bitch: Chiamaka is the Queen Bee at Niveus, she does whatever she can to avoid losing this title. She takes no prisoners and is in a complete different social circle compared to Devon.
- Racist Grandma: Chiamaka’s grandmother is said to dislike Chiamaka and her mother for their skin colour. As such, now Chiamaka is a teenager she and her mother no longer visit her grandmother in Italy, only her father sees his family in Italy now.
Jamie
Jamie FitzJohn
Chiamaka’s rich but ditzy best friend (and crush) Jamie is the only person who really gets Chiamaka. So she thought . . .- Dumb Jock: He’s on the school Football team and isn’t the brightest.
- Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Jamie is mentioned to be this.
- Spoiled Sweet: Chiamaka thinks he’s this. Of course when Chiamaka begins to realise how controlling and rude he is she begins to see him for what her really is.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: According to Chiamaka, Jamie desperately craves his father’s approval but doesn’t get it.
Jack
Jack McConnell
Devon’s best (and only) friend who grows distant from Devon. Like Devon, Jack has two younger brothers and is from a working-class background, living in a rough neighbourhood. Jack lives with his uncle, his mother overdosed on drugs.- Dirty Coward: When Devon discovers Jack is involved with Aces and confronts him about betraying his best friend who helped him across the years, Jack admits to being involved but shows no remorse for his actions. In fact, it’s implied that Jack getting involved was more than just hoping to avoid getting kicked out of school, as Devon mentions they were never as close as they used to be after Devon privately came out to Jack.
Belle
Belle Robinson
Jamie’s new girlfriend who Chiamaka instantly dislikes. However, when Jamie becomes a hatred for Chiamaka, Belle becomes Chiamaka’s best friend and girlfriend.- Academic Athlete: Belle is on the girls Lacrosse team and is also applying to Yale.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Belle has long, Golden hair and is shown to be kind and sweet. She’s not part of Chiamaka’s clique but is popular in her own right. This isn’t because she’s ruthless like Chiamaka either, it’s because she’s so nice.
