Go To

A character does something that goes against their characterization.

Or, more precisely, Out of Character is a term used for a character's actions that conflicts with their personality. This trope is noticably common in Fan-fics. This could be for a large variety of reasons, such as the writer forgetting/not understanding a character's actions, or, in terms of in-universe, they may be Brainwashed and Crazy. Sometimes, when someone acts OOC, it's a noticable problem. If the actions go far, far beyond the character's personality, it could be a case of Character Derailment.
