Hilarious In Hindsight / The Amanda Show

Go To

  • A Running Gag is Preston asking his sister Penelope to "make me a sandwich." Years later came the "go make me a sandwich" meme. Coincidence, or psychics?
  • Moody's Point ended on a Cliffhanger...in hindsight this works really well as a parody of shows that get Screwed by the Network and end in similar fashions. Also Harsher in Hindsight when the show itself had this happen.
  • Penelope has pillows with pictures of Amanda on them, predating the body pillow waifu meme by several years.
  • The various mockbuster titles in the Blockblister sketches become this after The Asylum made a name for themselves with the vast library of mockbusters they've made. note
  • Drake Bell played a knockoff of Marvel Comics superhero Cyclops in a Blockblister sketch and a kid with Eye Beams restrained by shades in a separate classroom sketch. Then, in 2011, he got a job at Marvel, voicing Spider-Man for cartoons. Made even more hilarious when taking into account his starring in Superhero Movie in between those two gigs.
  • "I have a website, you know! www.amandaplease.com!" And indeed, it was still up on the web after 15 years, giving fans a chance to see the old skits from the show while Amanda was Penelope Taint... until Nick.com got a major overhaul in early 2015.
  • Judge Trudy (well, just her name, but still) later re-appeared on the revivals of The Electric Company and The Powerpuff Girls.
  • In one episode, Drake was trying to impress a girl by saying he'll leave The Amanda Show soon when he gets his own spinoff. He had a Dream Sequence about The Drake Show in a different opening. Not only did he get his own spinoff with Josh Peck, it was actually more popular than The Amanda Show!
  • In another episode, Drake convinces Josh to try and take the show over while Amanda is sleeping, to see if they could handle it. In this case, though, everyone thinks they're unfunny and attacks them, but this failure won't stop Josh from constantly getting roped into Drake's schemes for years...
  • In one Dooper sketch, a woman played by Nancy Sullivan tastes a cup of soup that she pulls an entire piece of underwear out of. In one episode of Drake & Josh, where she played the titular characters' mother, she boils soup with her husband's underwear in it. It Makes Sense in Context.
  • Episode 33, which originally aired on February 9, 2002, has a sketch where Drake played a boy taking a bath and Amanda played a lifeguard who was in his bathroom acting as if the bath was a beach and she was trying to keep the boy safe. A pornographic Baywatch spoof movie called Boobwatch with the same set-up came out nine years later in 2011 and the porn became the subject of a meme. Both the porn and the sketch have a part where the lifeguard blows a whistle and tells the boy that there’s a shark in the water and has him get out.
  • In one episode, Josh saved Drake from falling into a trap set by Penelope (with Josh's help — long story), ending with a relieved, remorseful Josh wrapping a very confused Drake in a powerful bear hug. "HUG ME, BROTHA!"
  • In the Judge Trudy sketch where Josh Peck's character sues a doctor for giving him a shot, he says "She's just evil, EVIL." Josh's character repeating words for emphasis and shouting "Evil!" would later both become his catchphrases in Drake & Josh
  • The "Judge Trudy" sketch where a kid managed to lose an entire space shuttle becomes this with the incident of the military managing to lose an F-35 Fighter Jet over Charleston.
