Heartwarming / Tress of the Emerald Sea

Go To

  • Tress thinks of Charlie as like a glove. Something worn, and practical, that molds to you as long as you wear it and take care of it. Right before he leaves, Charlie calls her a glove.
  • Charlie is being dragged off to marry a beautiful princess. He immediately decides that he's going to do everything in his power to bore them to death so he can be with Tress instead.
  • Despite Hoid insisting that everyone except for Tress hated Charlie, one of the sailors has nothing but kind words regarding him. He sounds heartbroken when he explains how Charlie's plan to bore everyone to death was ultimately defeated, and he passed on his last message and broken cup to Tress.
  • When Tress tells her parents her plan, they take some time to consider, then agree to support her in whatever way they can. Tress' father, notably, goes down to the pub and circumspectly reminds the dockworkers about all the favors he has done for them (without ever actually saying such a thing). The next day, they all show up at Tress' house and demand to help with her problem.
  • Huck stays with Tress for the simple reason that she's the first human he's met who hasn't tried to kill or sell him. Though the eventual reveal he is a cursed Charlie makes it clear he remained with her because, well, he loves her, he would've expected it of Tress anyways.
  • When Xisis offers Tress a great boon, her wishes are completely unselfish. Besides 'help save Charlie' (which is denied), she asks for Salay to find her father, Ann to be able to aim properly, and Fort to have a new translator tablet.
