Seeing Amy hug the animals is really nice, and how she rushed off when seeing the Tornado after being captured by Metal Sonic shows how willing she now is to stand up for herself.
Knuckles glides after Sonic when he sees the Tornado so he can help Sonic and Tails in their mission. And that's especially considering he's helping the blue hedgehog who he was once at odds with back in his debut.
In Lagoon City Zone Act Amy, Amy finds Trip crying after getting caught in her own trap and falling into a pit. She offers to help Trip in an Escort Mission to get back out. After that, she offers Trip an apple she picked up at the beginning of the level, which Trip accepts happily. Later, in Golden Capital, after Fang kicks her aside to reclaim the Chaos Emeralds, she uses them after coming out of her shell to turn into a dragon and defeat Fang in mere seconds. After this, Amy introduces Trip to the boys, and while Trip is still shy, this whole friendship is adorable and sweet. Makes one wish they could see her again.
The introduction between Trip and the rest of Team Sonic has her bring her helmet over her face, which the team understand and take in good stride, all four giving a chuckle. After a few moments, Trip also peeks out from under her helmet, giving a smile, also laughing with them.
After beating the Main Story, Trip is unlocked as a playable character on repeat playthroughs, allowing her to venture across the Northstar Islands with her new friends and even form a team with Amy, the one that helped kickstart her Heel–Face Turn away from Eggman and Fang in the first place.
In Frozen Base Zone, Tails builds an Eggmobile for his friends in freezing cold temperatures. Now that is dedication.
Each character has their own in the ending cutscene:
Tails looking for his friends to save them from dying in space is a possible nod to him saving Sonic in Sonic 2, showing how much he cares for all four of his allies.
The heroes drop Knuckles off at Angel Island and when they leave, Amy is still waving. Knuckles gives them a thankful smile, and contentedly returns to guarding the Master Emerald.
Amy's ending cutscene has her hugging the animals as gratitude for everything she and the others have done. And even sweeter? Sonic gives her a thumbs up, showing how proud he is of her for coming this far.
Sonic's ending has him shake hands with Trip, having accepted her fully as a good companion.
Trip's ending has her hugging her animal friends that she saved, and a giant Flicky holds her up. Sonic gives her a thankful thumbs-up, and she gives him the most adorable smile, bashfully putting her helmet back on to cover her blushing. Even better, the fact that you only get this ending if you play Trip's Story implies that the shy lizard went out on her own adventure thanks to Amy's inspirational friendship with her.
During the True Final Boss, Tails will pop by in the Tornado to give Super Sonic rings so he doesn't run out. If the player does exceptionally well, managing to not get hit or damaged during the fight for a minute, Amy and Trip, riding atop a giant Flicky, will bring ring boxes that will give Sonic 40 rings. Knuckles even pitches in to assist in the finale, gliding around to give more rings as well.
Then Trip helping Super Sonic to seal the Black Dragon is sweet in its own right, showing the Character Development she has gone through during the game's events.
