Heartwarming / Sonic and the Secret Rings

Go To

  • After Shahra's noble sacrifice, Sonic breaks down into tears. He even tries wishing for her not to die. Of course that doesn't work. Then again, that's more like a Tear Jerker moment.
    • Of course the real heartwarming moment is after that: when Shahra is revived and starts crying again, as it is implied she and Erazor had been in a relationship. What does Sonic do? He wishes for a pile of handkerchiefs so she can cry as much as she needs to. That is, if this isn't considered to be narmy or a case of saccharine.
Sonic: Shahra, can you grant me one last wish? I wish for a mountain of handkerchiefs. (Handkerchiefs start gently falling out of the sky.) Now, just let yourself cry. As much as you need to. You'll have plenty of handkerchiefs to help you through it.
    • Also, this was just after his Moment of Awesome of him sealing away Erazor permanently ("I told you! I'm not a RAT! I'm a hedgehog.") — right after he blows out the flame, he looks up to see Shahra crying. Cue him looking at the floor in guilt and sympathy, then asking her for this last wish.
    • Really, pretty much the entirety of Sonic and Shahra's relationship in this game. From the very start, he refuses to be called "Master" by her, treating her as his equal and showing her kindness and friendship. It just makes Shahra's Heroic Sacrifice all the more tragic.
      • Also, their Pinky Swear right after the Sand Scorpion appears and Sonic learns that Shahra can't magic this boss away, much to her guilt:
Sonic: OK then! Guess I'll just have to deal with him the old-fashioned way. And hey...don't look so glum, Shahra. I'll have you smiling by the end of this. And that's not me ordering you as your master. That's a promise, [holds out his pinky finger] from me to you.
Shahra: [joins her pinky with his] Yes... alright.
      • He even reminds her of this promise as he is growing noticeably weak from the flame arrow curse — as he is essentially dying.
      • And later on, when Shahra almost pulls a Faceā€“Heel Turn and gives Erazor Djinn the World Rings (after he gives her a We Can Rule Together speech), Sonic immediately uses her ring to command her to "do what you truly think is right". And it works. Not only was this a massive gamble that paid off, but it is a HUGE testament to how much faith Sonic had in her that she'd want to do the right thing, as he could have merely wished for her to not give Erazor the Rings.
      • After Shara's death Sonic STILL holds tightly onto Shara's ring and calls out to her for strength in the final battle with her spirit still managing to guide him. Just goes to show how much of a bond the two of them share.
Sonic: We've got to stop him...Shara! Please. LEND ME YOUR POWER!
