Heartwarming / Pathologic 2

Go To

Despite the otherwise depressing and oppressive atmosphere or the game (or perhaps because of it), there are plenty of Heartwarming Moments between Artemy and the other characters— should the player choose them.

  • While there is room for debate as to whether or not Peter is really the best guardian for Grace, there's no doubt that they do care about each other. Grace confesses to the Haruspex that, after being expected to care for the dead for so long, she has no idea how to care for a living human. Peter grows so attached to Grace that even after she becomes infected with the plague and (as far as they know) is highly contagious and sure to die, he refuses to leave her and threatens to fight Artemy if he should try to take her away.
  • Early on in the game, Notkin becomes infected with the plague. This is a scripted event and cannot be stopped. However, if you've gotten lucky or made some good trades, you might have a Shmowder on you and can cure him that way. If you do, Notkin is shocked that you would use something so precious on him.
  • Murky spends most of the game explicitly telling Artemy that she doesn't need him, doesn't want him around, and doesn't see anything about him to love. Despite this, she continually follows Artemy around, tries to get his attention (interrupting the initial quest with Grace), and eventually moves into the factory. Eventually, the Sand Plague infects all of the children in town at once. Only then does Murky finally admit to the Haruspex that not only does she care about him, but she's cared about him from the moment they met.
  • As the game progresses, Artemy can become more and more attached to the children (depending on the player's choices). By the end, nearly all of them can be moved into the "blood" portion of the Person's page— a section reserved for Artemy's family, and his dialog options reflect his affection for them, calling them his children.
  • While Rubin, Grief, and Lara have all had their issues with each other and Artemy, you can rebuild their relationships and bring them together again, making peace with Rubin (and saving his life a couple times), helping Grief through his Villainous BSoD, and helping keep Lara from assassinating a general. By the end of the game, all three of them have been moved to the Blood portion of the Person's page.
  • The Diurnal Ending. After frantically running through the town trying to save who you can while acquiring resources to keep yourself alive for 11 incredibly stressful days, having a brightly lit town to freely explore really hammers home the fact that thanks to you, the town is saved and there will be a future.
    • If you tell Mark Immortell that you are Artemy and your place is with the town, upon leaving the theatre, you are treated to a shot of yourself before the camera zooms out to show children playing in the street under a bright blue sky. After those 11 days, the town and you earned it.
