Heartwarming / Nightwing (Infinite Frontier)

Go To

  • Dick saves a puppy that was being abused by some assholes on the street, initially he refuses to adopt her, but he ends up keeping her. (And Barbara and Tim both remark that it's going to happen.) He names her Haley, after Haley's Circus.
  • Barbara revealing that Alfred wasn’t a butler because he needed the money, but because it was what he wanted to do.
  • When she believed Dick was in trouble, Barbara decided to call in The Cavalry: Batman and the Titans. They almost lost Dick before; they're just making sure that it won't happen again. A pretty awesome scene as well until Dick calls Babs back and tells them all to stand down.
  • Dick founding a charity named after the man who bequethed all his wealth to him: the Alfred Pennyworth Foundation. Bruce even calls Dick to thank him.
"Dick, you honored him today. Thank you."
    • The rest of the Bat-Family send him congratulatory text message as well. Notably, Cass send a block of emojis (party horns, champagne bottles, hands clapping and whistling faces, followed by rows of fireworks), while Damian simply writes, "Not that it's a competition, but you win."
  • When Dick is caught in an ambush by the fake Oracle in Crime Alley, Batman is there to help him out. They work as well together as they used to and when the fight is over Batman says that he still thought Nightwing could have gotten out of the situation by himself. When Dick asks why he interfered then, Bruce says that he watched his parents die in that alley, and he couldn't bear to see his son die there as well.
  • The crossover with Superman: Son of Kal-El shows us one incident where Dick and Bruce went to hunt down a young Jon, who had ran away after a traumatic incident. Dick quickly bonds with the young Kryptonian after reassuring him that everything'll be just fine.
    • Clark and Bruce bonding over parenting - and Bruce's remark that Alfred still checks in on him when he sleeps - will certainly warm the hearts of any parents reading.
  • In issue 96 while Dick has beaten Blockbuster, Blockbuster now knows Dick Grayson is Nightwing. As such Dick is prepared to break up with Barbara to keep her safe. Instead, Barbra shuts down his logic by pointing out that as superheroes they're always in danger, she's prepared to weather the storm with him and that they're both allowed to be happy.
  • In issue 98, the heartwarming gets cranked up waaaaaayyy past 11 when Reality Warper Nitemite shows up and decides that Nightwing needs a sidekick. Nitemite not only makes the fan nickname canon by turning puppy Haley into Bitewing (complete with an adorable matching outfit), but also gives Haley the (temporary) ability to 'talk'. Haley then cuddles up to Nightwing and thanks him for giving her a forever home, all while Nitemite squees in the background.
    Haley: Good human.
  • Issue 100 is 80% heartwarming.
    • When Nightwing approaches the men who were involved in the prison breakout, instead of immediately jumping into action, he just asks them to stand down if they don't want to be involved in the riots, since he knows some of them are just victims of the corrupt system that he's working to dismantle. Many of them do stand down and agree to help Nightwing out because there's a bunch of kids who were just following orders to survive.
    • The Titans drop everything to come help Nightwing out with the breakout and they bail him out once he's cornered. Even Wonder Woman and Superman show up to help.
Nightwing: You have minions. I have friends.
    • Nightwing gets asked to lead the Justice League by Superman and Wonder Woman, because they've seen the good work he's doing in both his civilian and superhero identity and firmly believe he's the right man to lead. Batman also agrees since he's been training Nightwing to lead the Justice League since his Robin days.
    • Batman and Nightwing standing at Alfred's grave and discussing the request. Batman firmly believes he's the right man for the job and they have a heart to heart at Alfred's grave and Batman mentions that Alfred was the one to convey the things Bruce left unsaid. What's most poignant is that they both unmask for the conversation.
Dick: What would Alfred have said for you now?
Bruce: Alfred would have said that you saved me. Before you, every hit was a little harder. I know what Batman could have turned into without you. I know what could have consumed me if you weren't in my life.
Dick: No, you don't. You've always been a good judge of human natured, except for your own. You're a good man. You would have been fine, Bruce.
Bruce: There it is. The way you look for the best in everyone. The way you seek to help before you seek to punish. This is why we want you to lead. Alfred would have told you that I am inspired by you. He would have told you that I am so proud my son has grown to be the best of us.
Nightwing looks surprised as Bruce lowers his head
Bruce: I'm sorry if you've ever thought differently. I'm sorry if I failed you. I'm sorry for everytime I tried to push you away because of my own—
Dick hugs Bruce before placing his hand on Bruce's shoulder
Dick: You never failed me. You were young, you were driven, and you were grieving. And you put all that aside to take in a kid who lost everything in an instant. You didn't have to do that. You could have turned your back on me.
      Bruce: No, I couldn't.
Dick: No. You couldn't. And I've tried to repay that kindness every day of my life since. If I'm going to lead, I'm going to need your guidance more than ever. I mean it, I'm going to be bugging you a lot.
Bruce: I'll be here for whatever you need.
      Dick: I know you will.
      Dick and Bruce hug
      Dick: I love you, dad.
    • Dick buys the now abandoned prison complex and expresses his desire for the city to do better, to be better.
Dick: I don't want this to be a city that punishes. I want it to be a city that helps. We should do justice right.
    • Dick decides to turn the abandoned prison complex into the new home of the Titans, so no matter what, the city has guardians to protect it.
  • Nightwing mentoring Jon Kent in how to be an effective superhero and being the Big Brother Mentor to him that he needs. Also Clark trusting Nightwing to train and look after his son.
  • Pretty much any flashback that involves Alfred.
  • Superman expressing how much he looked up to Alfred, especially for what a great job Alfred did raising heroes.
