** It's worth mentioning that his missing Ryuuzaki is probably a little bit of VictoryIsBoring coming into play too. Ryuuzaki was the only one who had truly challenged him on an intellectual level. Part of Light was probably missing the game.

** Also the fact that Light was ''genuinely upset'' by [[spoiler: Soichiro dying]] beyond just being unable to kill Mello. Naturally crosses into Tear Jerker, but it's clear that Light still had some humanity within in. [[spoiler: Sadly, Soichiro's death and his fate afterwards also means that said humanity has just died.]]

* Near giving Mello his props, admitting that he wouldn't have been able to corner Kira if [[spoiler: Mello hadn't kidnapped Takada and forced Mikami to expose the location of the real notebook]]. By focusing on remotely analyzing information and recklessly engaging with suspects to force information out, respectively, neither Near nor Mello could have closed the case on their own. Near only received the information he needed to win because of Mello's approach, and Mello's plan only benefited anyone because Near remained. Had the two of them actually put their heads together as Roger suggested, it might have gone better for both of them, but either way, Near acknowledges that Mello played a vital role in the victory.
-->...But I always knew that I would never be able to surpass L. It could be that I lacked the action and he lacked the calm... and even though we couldn't surpass the one we admired on our own... Together, we can stand with L. Together, we can surpass L.

* Misa's not ''quite'' as severe of a {{Yandere}} without her Kira memories, and in the anime after making her drunken crack at Takada that she'd be executed if it was proven she's helping Kira, Misa actually looks concerned when it looks like it badly upset Takada. The moment doesn't laugh since it turns out Takada is actually amused and resumes acting condescending toward Misa, but it was a nice flash of common decency on Misa's part.

* Ide being sympathetic to Matsuda as well as listening to his theories about the events of the Yellow Box Warehouse, and that he cared about Light in the epilogue. He also doesn't think Matsuda is twisted at all by being sympathetic to Light[=/=]Kira, but manages to convince Matsuda they made the right choice because it meant they're still alive.

* It's a tiny moment, but the police mention with frustration that a lot of people have called claiming they were Kira, with some being attention-seekers and others being worried they are a jinx. During one phone call in the manga, a person calls and says with regret that they wished the criminals that died would be killed, and [[IWishedYouWereDead is worried it was their fault]]. The officer, while visibly irritated, stays patient and asks if they also wished for the FBI agents to die. After a {{Beat}}, the caller says no, they didn't even know about that. The cop reassures them they aren't Kira, but to call if they are still worried in a few weeks. Light claims people need his form of justice, but that single moment of kindness from the cop to a scared person believing they were evil proved him wrong.

* When Mello threatens Soichiro that if he doesn't tell him who the new L they set up is he'll kill Sayu, both Soichiro and Light are torn on what to do, as if he names Light then Mello might kill Light immediately, and if he doesn't Sayu will die. Matsuda, overhearing the conversation, lunges over Light's shoulder and types into the computer that Light is using to silently instruct Soichiro that he should tell Mello that ''Matsuda'' is the new L, but is just a figurehead [[SelfDeprecation because he's completely useless]]. Matsuda both once again shows that he would die for his friends, and is accepting enough of his own weaknesses that he's just happy to let himself be used however he can.

Rather than actually ''call'' him useless like Matsuda typed, Soichiro just calls him a figurehead.

** In that light (no pun intended), the part from episode 23 where [[spoiler: Higuchi is caught]] is also pretty heartwarming, as by this time, all but six of the police had quit because they were afraid of Kira, one quit because he was suspicious of L, [[spoiler: one was killed]], and [[spoiler: one quit because he was not happy with L testing his resolve to stay]]. Light appears surprised at the police's cooperation, and then he and L jointly realize that [[spoiler: the police were led in this action by the two who most recently quit, who subsequently return to the task force.]]

** It's brief, but in the manga, when that scene cuts to [[spoiler:Aizawa and Ide]], they mention how excited they were to learn from the Sakura TV broadcast that the supposedly dead Matsuda was still alive. They evidently had seen his death announcement in the newspaper, but because they'd already left the task force, they would have had no idea it was fake. With Matsuda being the ButtMonkey of the series — rarely noticed or appreciated, usually yelled at or scolded when he is noticed, and even subjected to SnubByOmission treatment — it's very sweet to see someone express sincere concern for his well-being. And all the more sweet that it comes from [[spoiler:Aizawa]], who got frustrated with him and yelled at him more than anyone else did.

One Hundred And Eight is now Mystical 108; examples should be about the religious significance or at least be a clear reference to Eastern religions

* Unrelated to Light and L, but... in chapter OneHundredAndEight, Near not only is calling all the survivors up again to keep working together, but if you look closely, there's that one shot of him playing as usual... [[spoiler: and he's eating a bar of chocolate, just like Mello used to [[note]]Okay, you find a way to phrase that which doesn't make it clear that Mello dies[[/note]].]]
