Chapter I

  • Shuichi choosing to sacrifice himself in order to protect Kaede by claiming to be the 'blackened' and taking the "First Blood Perk" in order to save Kaede from the execution. It doubles as a Tear Jerker.
  • When they arrive at the Shrine of Judgement, Kaede and Shuichi turn around to find that all thirteen students had followed behind them; all of them come to see Shuichi off.
Kaito: "What, you really thought I'd let Shuichi be sent off without a bang? C'mon, you guys, have a little more faith in us! We've been pals for a couple of days now, of course we're gonna support you!"
    • Even Kokichi stays, who gets called out by Himiko for staying despite being so cold towards Shuichi.
Kokichi: "Really? You do realise he just murdered Rantaro in cold blood, right, Kaito?"
Himiko: "You're here too. If you're so mad at him you can just leave, y'know."
    Kokichi: "Nee-heehee! You got me!"
  • Before he graduates, Shuichi and Kaede hug after everyone else leaves.
  • Shuichi also gives Kaede his hat as a sign that they will definitely meet again in the future.
Shuichi: "You hold onto that for me until we meet again, all right?"
Kaede: "W-wait, Shuichi, I can't possibly take your hat from y—"
Shuichi: "No, I insist you do. That way when we meet again, you can give it back to me…"
  • When the Exisals come to escort Shuichi out of the school Kaede doesn't even hesitate to step forward and protect him.
  • This is reversed shortly after when one of the Exisals attempts to shoot Kaede for breaking Rule #8 of the School Rules (violence against the headmaster) and Shuichi jumps in front of her, Taking the Bullet for her.
Shuichi (after getting shot): "K-Kaede? Are you... okay? Did you... get hurt...?"
    Kaede: "Wh… Of course I'm okay! Y-you protected me, so I didn't—"
    Shuichi: "Ah, That's good… that's good…" My body… sorta… just moved on its own… I'm not really sure why…"
  • Shuichi hugs Kaede again after being shot.
Shuichi: "I… think I do know, actually. It feels really good to finally be able to… protect you… even like this…"
  • Kaito and Tenko rush back into the Shrine and seem genuinely distraught at Shuichi's state.
    • Without thinking, Kaito tries to stop the rush of blood by wrapping his jacket around Shuichi's bullet wound.
    • Despite her misgivings against men, Tenko pleads with Monokuma to get him medical attention.
Tenko: "G-get him some medical attention! Please! Before he...!"
    • Tenko also holds Kaede back from attacking Monokuma, lest she break the same rule again.
  • Monophanie says she'll ensure that Shuichi leaves the academy unharmed, so long as she doesn't have to see any of the blood herself.
  • After Shuichi 'graduates', Tenko and Kaito stay with her. Tenko lets Kaede cry in her arms, as Kaito silently watches on.
  • When she finally leaves the Shrine of Judgement, she runs into Maki, who appeared to have waited outside for her.

Chapter II

  • Tenko and Tsumugi deliver Kaede breakfast the following morning in chapter 2, and wait by her bedside for her to wake up.
  • Gonta apparently carried Kaede's sleeping body back to her dorm room.
  • Kirumi made an extra portion of breakfast for Kaede.
  • The way Angie gets excited when Korekiyo says he'd genuinely like to know more about her island.
  • Angie calls out Miu's clear interest in Kiibo, and Miu gets extremely embarrassed.
  • Kokichi crawling out from under the cafeteria table wearing Kaito's jacket.
  • Gonta drying off Monotaro after he falls into a bowl of milk.
  • Kaito sulking when Tenko denies him permission to visit Kaede in her room due to his gender.
  • The end of chapter 2, when everyone agrees to work together to open up the new areas of the school.
  • Tenko encourages Kaede to wear Shuichi's hat.
Tenko: "I didn't really know him, and he did murder someone... but he... He didn't seem like a typical degenerate male when he was around you... and maybe if it would make you feel a bit better about everything... I think you should wear it... if you want..."
  • When Gonta panics after breaking the wall down in chapter 3 after inserting the glass eye into the dragon statue, Ryoma reassures him that he did a good job.
    Ryoma: "Gokuhara."
    Gonta: "R-Ryoma?"
Ryoma: "You did good, big guy. You found us a whole new world to look around."
    Gonta: "G-Gonta did?"
Ryoma: "Yep. So don't be sorry, be proud of yourself."
Gonta: "O-okay. Gonta proud he broke wall for everyone!"
Ryoma: *thumbs up* "That's the spirit."
  • Exploring the Ultimate Maid Lab: Kiibo being concerned for Kirumi's constant need to devote herself to others.
Kiibo: "Casting your feelings aside for the sake of serving... Although I do not have a human brain, I can imagine that supressing your feelings must be quite taxing on your body. My Professor taught me that emotions are fundamental to the human experience, which is why he allowed me to experience them, also."
  • Then Kiibo asking Kirumi to help him become the 'Ultimate Robotic Maid'!
  • Exploring the Ultimate Entomologist Lab: The entirety of the scene in Gonta's lab with the Monokubs.
  • Exploring the Casino/Love Hotel: Tenko flips Kaede to gauge her feelings, and concludes that Kaede is still feeling strong guilt over the events of the night prior, making Kaede almost cry again.
Tenko: "You're doubting your strength as a leader because you feel guilt from what ended up happening to Rantaro and Shuichi. Every time we'd spoken before, I've gotten this bright, confident aura from you, but I haven't really felt it since I met you last night in the basement with Kaito."
  • Exploring the Ultimate Magician Lab: Kokichi excitedly giving Himiko a hug after using her 'magic' to theorize where his research lab is.
  • Exploring the Ultimate Tennis Pro Lab: Kaito trying (and succeeding) in persuading Ryoma to at least go in and look around his lab despite the latter's supposed hatred for tennis.
  • Exploring the Ultimate 'Child Caregiver's' Lab: Kaito reassuring Maki that she's not alone and that he wants to get to know her better, causing Maki to blush. Even when Maki slams the door on him, he continues to offer his friendship, her demeanor momentarily defrosts.
  • When Kaede plays various songs on her piano in her research lab as she remembers Rantaro and Shuichi and moments they had together in chapter 4.
  • Later, when Miu enters the lab and Kaede plays her a song, too. Seemingly the first time Miu has ever gotten a private performance of anything in her life.
  • Miu also is the person to inspire Kaede to 'change things up a little' and wear Shuichi's hat in a way that's unique to her.
  • At night-time, when Kaito recruits Kaede as his sidekick.
  • At the start of chapter 5, when Kiibo emerges from the dining hall in Kirumi's dress in an attempt to become more 'human'.
  • Then later, when Kiibo shows genuine concern in Miu's wellbeing when Kirumi suspects her of being unwell.
  • During the insect Meet 'n Greet, despite being weak, Kiibo piggybacks Kaede to the Ultimate Inventor's Lab.
  • Tenko showing concern to Kaede when dressing the latter's ankle.
  • In chapter 6, when Gonta takes off Ryoma's handcuffs and tells him that he'll help him find a reason to live if he can't find one, to the point where he momentarily breaks his Hulk Speak. Ryoma offers to give him a beginner's course in tennis as a thanks, and the pair supposedly have a game off-screen.
  • Kaede finally shares her darkest secret (that she is Rantaro's true killer) with Ryoma, of all people.
  • Tenko, Kaede and Kaito have their first (and last) training session together.
  • Tenko in chapter 7, praising Kaede, Himiko and Tsumugi when the three of them are self-depreciating.
Tenko: "You're all amazing in your own ways, you know? I've said it to Kaede before. But I really, really adore performers, so you three are like, my absolute idols! So don't put yourself down like that, okay?"
  • In chapter 9, when Kaede is forced to lie to solidify her own alibi, Tenko and Kaito follow along without a second thought.
  • In chapter 11, when Tenko admits that she only tried to kill Korekiyo to protect the girls from being his next targets.
  • Bordering on Tear Jerker: when Himiko grabs onto Tenko just as she's being pulled up into the execution chamber, only to be taken with her, and Tenko pushing Himiko out of the way just in time, before she's impaled in the throat, her final act of nobility before being killed by Monokuma.
  • In chapter 12, when Rantaro stops Shuichi from tripping, and when the pair awkwardly try to bond over a travel magazine in an attempt to not refer to the hidden door, despite them both knowing of it's existence.
  • Angie picking bugs out of Korekiyo's hair during the Insect Meet 'n Greet.
  • Kaito and Kokichi working together with Kirumi and Tsumugi during the Insect Meet 'n Greet to get everyone out of Gonta's clutches, and Kaito becoming concerned when he realizes Kokichi's crippling fear of insects.
  • The end of chapter 12, in which Kaede thanks Tenko and Kaito for their actions in chapter 1, and, once Kaito leaves, Tenko and Kaede embrace.

Chapter III

  • Kirumi cooking hotpot in memory of Tenko in chapter 13.
  • Exploring the Ultimate Aikido Master's Lab: Kaito and Kaede deciding with the others to leave the place untouched in Tenko's memory.
  • Exploring the Ultimate Anthropologist's Lab: Despite the underlying implications, Angie comforting Kiibo and assuring him that 'Atua' would accept him into heaven regardless of his humanity or lack thereof.
  • In chapter 14, Kaede tells Korekiyo that despite what he's done on the outside, she will remain willing to work together with him and the others to escape the killing game.
  • In chapter 15, Kirumi, Kaede and Maki come together to convince Himiko to stop punishing herself for Tenko's death.
  • Ryoma and Kaede have a heart-to-heart after failing to stop Angie from going through with the revival ritual.
  • Rantaro is brought back to life via Angie at the end of chapter 15. For someone who died near the start of the story and lacked much spotlight or character development as a result (and usually remains dead in rewrites of V3), it is very nice for him to be back in the game for a chance to shine.
  • During the chapter 16 memorial, Korekiyo opens up to the group about his past in an attempt to assure them that he is telling the truth about putting his killing spree on hold while locked up in the Ultimate Academy, and even tells Himiko that despite initially considering her as a 'friend' for his sister, he would not wish for her up like he did over grief. This ends positively, with Ryoma removing his handcuffs, Angie giving him a hug, and Rantaro applauding his honesty.
  • Miu and Kaede have a revelation in chapter 17 that furthers solidifies their belief that neither of them are the mastermind.
  • Maki tries to apologize to Kaede for choking her in chapter 15.
  • Just before Kiibo's body is found, Rantaro admits to Kaede that he wants to be able trust her since she helped Shuichi try to outsmart the mastermind in chapter 1.
  • Kaito recruits Himiko as a temporary sidekick to investigate both Kiibo and Kirumi's bodies with him.
  • During the class trial in chapter 20, Kaede puts her full trust in Miu, despite Miu being the #1 suspect for Kiibo's murder, and, along with Kaito, does the same thing with Maki in chapter 21 when she becomes the prime suspect for Kirumi's murder.
  • When Kaito's Incurable Cough of Death becomes apparent near the end of the trial, Maki urges for them to finish quickly.
  • When Kiibo's killer is revealed to be Angie in chapter 22, Angie comforts a distraught Himiko.
Angie: "Angie just wanted to say she's really, really sorry that she hasn't been able to talk to you properly recently. And she's also very sorry that it had to end like this. But she promises that when she gets to heaven, the first thing she's gonna do is tell Tenko how amazing you've been!"
Himiko: *sniffling* "I haven't— hic! been amazing, I— hic! haven't done anything except— hic! cause trouble—"
Angie: "Nyahahaha! Don't be silly. Atua tells Angie that you're doing a very good job at protecting everyone, y'know? More than Angie can even imagine…"
    Himiko: "Really?"
Angie: "Mhmm! Really! Which is why you shouldn't cry!" *squishing Himiko's cheeks* "Smile, smile!"
  • During Angie's execution, Monokid jumps out from behind a tree and tries to bat Monodam into the execution ring with his guitar. Monotaro realizes in time and pushes Monodam out of the way, saving him and causing Monokid to instead fall to his death.
  • In chapter 23, Korekiyo offers to bandage Angie's legs up after she tripped and fell into a glass display cabinet. Before she uncuffs him, Angie makes him pinky-promise with her to not kill her if she lets him free, which he complies with.
    • A few minutes later, Korekiyo does try this, but Angie remains unfazed, instead reminding Korekiyo that he wouldn't try it, as he's taken his promises very seriously in the past.
    • Angie presents him with a drawing of his Sister she'd drawn as he'd been gushing about her earlier, and he seems reacts quite emotionally to it.
    • Before the conversation is interrupted by Kaito, Korekiyo makes Angie promise to try thinking more for herself (as opposed to always following Atua's orders), on the condition that he does the same with him and his sister's wishes.
  • Also in chapter 23, Ryoma begrudgingly teaches Kaede how to hold a tennis racket, despite his 'resentment' for tennis.
    • When Kirumi comes into the room after mixing up times, Ryoma insists she take a break, and Kaede requests that she play tennis with Ryoma to take her mind off work.
    • After their match, Kirumi confesses to Ryoma that she wishes to get to know him more, beyond both of their titles.
Kirumi: "Maids require the ability to sense their client’s thoughts and emotions. Whilst we are here, that includes yours too, Ryoma. I cannot do that efficiently if you keep yourself at a distance. You are stuck in a shell, and instead of breaking through that shell you avert your eyes from everything and everyone. That is why I am hesitant to leave you alone."
Ryoma: "You really don’t have to do tha—"
Kirumi: "But it is also why I would like to offer to bridge that distance between us. Because I, the Kirumi Tojo who is not a maid, would also like to know more about the Ryoma Hoshi who is not Killer Tennis."
  • Pretty much the entirety of the chapter 23 scene between Kiibo and Miu.

Chapter IV

  • Chapter 26: After Miu breaks down crying over recent events, Kaede quickly hugs her, reassuring her she won't die on her. Miu, in turn, takes Kaede's confession of killing Rantaro in stride, even cracking a joke about it a minute later.
  • Chapter 28: In the Neo-World, Miu does her best to reassure Kaede over her guilt about Rantaro. She also thanks her for talking her out of her murder attempt.
