Per wiki policy, Spoilers Off applies here and all spoilers are unmarked. You Have Been Warned.

Even though the story is a horror thriller, there's still a few moments that'll bring a happy smile.

  • One of the plaques at the Valhalla Nursing Home that Saga can find is Barry Wheeler having the original manor refurbished so as to give the Anderson brothers a place to retire when he became concerned for their health as their band tour started getting a little too rowdy. note
  • Even though it's only been hours since the revelation of their familial relationship, the Anderson brothers affectionately refer to Saga as "sweetiepie" and "kiddo," and she calls Tor "grandpa" out of concern as the brothers are driving the van to Cauldron Lake.
  • While Alan usually sounds confused whenever he runs into Ahti throughout the Dark Place, Alan never takes his frustration out at Ahti despite his cryptic advice. He gratefully thanks Ahti on unlocking the door to the Writer's Room Attic at the climax, and Ahti himself warmly wishes Alan luck.
    • In the same scene, Ahti speaks about the nature of water as both a force of life and death. His words not only reveal more about himself, but also serve as a reassuring counterpoint to the Dark Presence and its habit of using water to drown and destroy.
  • In the very last segment of "We Sing", Alan actually joins in on the singing and dancing, even when he was dismissive of it earlier. As it ends, he heads onto the main stage of the talkshow, grabs a cup of coffee, and gives a little smile as he sips at it. He even sounds a little less glum when he speaks to Ahti, calling "Herald of Darkness" catchy. The implication seems to be that Mr. Door and the Old Gods of Asgard arranged this for Alan in order to make him not lose hope, even if he thinks it's a bit cheesy.
  • While it's a bit downplayed since it happens at the point where things take a turn for the worse, it's sweet seeing just how quick Casey and Estevez have bonded. They've reached a first-name basis within the span of a few hours (for reference, Casey still refers to Saga, a very close friend, as "Anderson").
  • When Saga is fighting to regain control of her Mind Place after getting caught by a Scratch-possessed Casey and sent to the Dark Place, several moments pop up as she's fighting off the despair of Other Saga.
    • After Casey had divorced his wife, Saga would often drag him to her family for dinner. One of the photos on her fireplace mantle is that of a happily smiling Casey washing a pile of dishes, a birthday banner for him hung on the wall in front of him. This also triggers a memory of Casey admitting to Saga that meeting her family greatly helped his mental health and thanking her for it.
    • Logan had made a bracelet and bought a mug for Saga, even though the mug jokingly says "Not the Worst Mom."
    • Saga's mother had left her a card of encouraging her to not give up, despite the stumbles.
  • Upon discovering his escape will trap Saga in the Dark Place, Alan promptly forgets the quest that's been defining him and never even considers leaving her there to save himself. Even post Sanity Slippage, Alan is still a good person.
  • Barry and Alice didn't really like each other in the first game. Nevertheless, emails you can find in Parliament Tower indicate that he's still keeping in touch with her to be sure she's okay.
    • Alice also mentions in one of her recordings that Barry would come by the apartment during her depressive period to cook her meals, and outright admits that she hadn't given him enough credit as a friend.
  • In the Final Draft, Saga encounters Tor and Odin in the Dark Place — apparently, they've "finally buried the hatchet" with Door (well, at least Odin has). While Odin's declaration that there's nothing for them in the real world is a bit depressing, they're also set up quite nicely as the in-house band on In Between With Mr. Door, where they're deaged, reunited with a long-dead bandmate, and in a place of relative safety. Door meant it when he said Alan has more allies than he first assumed.
  • After Alan wakes up from being shot with the bullet of light in the Final Draft, he sees a vision of Alice and thanks her for all she did to help him. They can't be together just yet, but it seems that a happy reunion may be imminent.
  • In the Final Draft, Saga calls Logan like she did in the first playthrough, right before the screen cuts to black. This time, however, we cut back to see that Logan answered the call. She's alive, only remembering the events of "Return" as a bad dream.
