Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor

    Volume 1
  • Glenn helps Rumia with her spell circle when she has trouble completing it especially since before that he was an apathetic bastard the whole time.
  • When Glenn is asking Celica for help, she's unable to because for various reasons. His first concern is about the lives of the students inside the academy. Even Sistine was surprised at this and thought he would be colder.
  • When Sistine was in despair about the dark side of magic, it's Glenn who comforts her while repeating what Rumia told him about magic.
  • Rumia tells the unconscious Glenn that she knew that he was the magician that saved her years ago and how much she adores and respects him for protecting and inspiring her many years ago.

    Volume 2
  • Although Glenn only made the roster to win the festival for money, it's still nice to know he knows everything about his students' abilities in magic which allows him to make a roster that makes use of all their specialties.
  • While Glenn did it unknowingly, he bucks the trend of classes only putting in their top students and excluding all the rest as if they were dead weight, by letting his entire class participate, which is what Sistine was trying to do due to the fun stories she heard from her father. Not to mention, it doesn't go unnoticed by the audience and quickly makes Class 2 the crowd favorite on the day of the event.
  • When the queen tearfully embraces Rumia for the first time in three long years, the mother and daughter reconcile and reaffirm their love for each other. After a long heartfelt talk, they still part ways (for now) due to political complications, but no doubt promising to stay in touch and be there for one another from thereon.
  • Glenn's promise to Rumia to protect her. He was asked by her mother to rescue her from her kidnappers and when he saw her, she wouldn't work with him so he made her this promise which he continues to carry out even though he hasn't met her for many years without any guarantee that they would meet each other again, but still chose to carry on. On top of that, the promise wasn't something anyone ordered him to make, but rather something he himself made to a girl who he sees as someone that just needed someone on her side.
Please. There are still enemies around. We can't make it out with the way you are.
Be afraid of me as much as you like, I don't mind.
However, if you could stop crying… I'll be your ally.
Even if the world is your enemy, even if everyone hates you, I will definitely be your ally.
No matter when, where, forever and ever.
    So please… don't cry.

    Volume 3
  • It's rather nice to see Re=L bond a bit with her classmates after her abysmal introduction.

    Volume 4
  • Glenn asking Class 2 what they think of Re=L. Not a single one of them has anything bad to say about her.

    Volume 5
  • Glenn takes Sistine away from her wedding despite her protest and once they're alone he tells her that he knows about the circumstances she's currently in. Sistine then calms down and hugs him while telling how afraid she was.
  • The reason why Glenn came out of his Heroic BSoD? He heard from Rumia that Sistine is in trouble.
  • Despite getting better at combat thanks to Glenn's training, Sistine is still afraid to fight. She asks Glenn how to not feel fear in a battle. He tells her that it's impossible since even he feels fear in battles, but there is something scarier than dying in a fight. It's losing something or someone more important. Remembering this gives Sistine the courage to help Glenn fight Jatice.
  • Sistine comes to Glenn's rescue and tells him that he's not someone she and the class can't live without since the impact he had on their lives is too big for them to forget.

    Volume 6
  • Celica gets along with Glenn's students after telling them about how she raised Glenn which causes them to see her more as a normal person instead of a "Harbinger of death" like the rumors that surround her.
  • Glenn tells Celica he truly considers her family and nothing will change that. Celica is overjoyed to hear this since she was scared he never saw her as a family due to her immortal body.

    Volume 7
  • Glenn reminds Rumia about his promise to her and that he just wants her to be happy as any other person when she broke down when the Reseachers of Divine Wisdom attacked the entire academy for her again.

    Volume 8
  • Due to Glenn's teachings, the class he tutors became more active and accepting of each other instead of the chaotic mess it was at the beginning.
  • Re=L and Aisha becoming genuine friends.
  • In the end the current condition of Saint Lily's Academy is going to improve once the psychological damage and corrupt headmaster was revealed to the public.

    Volume 9
  • Sistine driving to despair and desperation from Jin's resurrection and assault, gains the courage to fight back thanks to hearing Glenn's determination to keep on fighting against the resurrected Reik alone despite being outmatched by his draconic foe.
  • The reason why Glenn chose to stop the "Flame of Megiddo" instead of defeating Jatice and avenging Sara is because to him the life of the students are more important than that and thinks about the words Sistine told him in Volume 5.
  • When Glenn tries to activate the "Flame of Megiddo" instead of deactivating it based on his intuition. Everyone thinks that he's gone crazy and will do something that can kill everyone in the academy. Some students including some of his class even try to stop him by going to the battlefield (which could get them killed), but they are stopped by Gibble who questions them if Glenn ever did something to harm them. He then tells them to stay and trust him which they all do.

    Volume 10
  • Class 2 finally knows the circumstances that surround Rumia and they are angry... that they weren't told sooner, because they could have helped her. Rumia was so touched by their support that she cried.
  • Eve getting thanked by Wendy and Teresa for saving their lives during the battle. What makes this sweeter is that they first doubted Eve's abilities as the manager of the Special Missions Annex.
  • Nameless convincing the students who don't partake in the battle to join by showing them that Rumia is fighting hard and willing to sacrifice herself. This also includes the students who initially blamed her for the mess.
  • Rumia manages to get over her own self-loathing and decides to live out her life not only for herself but also for the people who care about her and vice versa.
  • It turns out that the reason Nameless told Rumia she hated her was not that she truly hated Rumia herself, but rather her unwillingness to live her life to the fullest and sacrifice her own personal happiness.

    Volume 11
  • Although Glenn was first forced into the roll as a result of a magic doll which emulated his personality too well. Glenn decides to lead the rebellion against the new headmaster anyway, because he wants the students to get the future which can't happen, because of the reformations.
  • Although their talk was pretty sad, it still ends on a bittersweet note since Glenn tells Eve that although she won't tell him what happens on the day Sara died, he won't question her about it and will wait for her to tell him herself. Thus giving hope that their relation could improve one day.
  • When Glenn hears about the danger of Alicia III's library. He is angry that not only his students became victims, but also Maxim's students. After being told how to stop it by Mabel, Glenn allows his students to help him end its threat. When Maxim calls him crazy for trying to fight against such monsters, Glenn tells him that his students have expectations for him and that it is his responsibility as a teacher to protect them in turn. This also became part of the reason why Alicia III trusts Glenn with her notes and mission to save the world.
  • The reason why Eve sacrificed herself is because she knows how much the students care about Glenn.
  • During Eve's sacrifice she thinks about the time she taught Class 2, looks at the faces of Sistine, Rumia and Re=L and finally about Glenn before her death.
  • The first thing Alicia III upon regaining control is restore everyone who got killed at the cost of her existence as a ghost including Eve. Naturally the first thing everyone does at seeing Eve back alive is give her a group hug.
  • Maxim realizing his mistakes after the incident and seeing Glenn's drive to protect his students which caused him to willingly resign.
  • In the end Eve actually enjoys being a teacher and stays as a lecturer for military class.

    Volume 12
  • Celica breaks down that the voice in her head is getting stronger and that she's afraid of regaining her memories since it could mean she can't be with Glenn anymore. Glenn responds by telling her once gain he doesn't care about her past, mission nor if she was a good person with her memories restored since they are family and nothing will change that and also reveals her that she's the "Magician of Justice", he aspires to be since she's the one who saved him.
  • The St. Lily students continue fighting against the ice zombies invading Snoria despite clear exhaustian, because they believe that Glenn and the others can or rather will defeat the dragon causing the disaster.

    Volume 13
  • Everyone doing everything they can to save Re=L's life once she starts getting ill.
  • Eve lets Sistine and Rumia go with her to save Re=L despite the risks involved in the operation.
  • Although she won't admit it, Eve is truly concerned that Glenn would fight against Albert since it could result in his death.
  • The reason why Glenn managed to defeat Albert was due to his desire to save Re=L while the reason Albert lost is due to being unable to sacrifice Re=L in the end.
  • Glenn tells Albert that he should trust his comrades since they are clearly willing to bear the same burden considering everything they went through. In the end, he heeds his advice and tells Bernard and Christoph about his discovery.

    Volume 14
  • In order to get help to stop the time loops, Glenn asks Eve for her help. Despite his absurd story, Eve believes him since it explains some of the mysteries surrounding the selection. Sadly this becomes a major Tear Jerker since this results in Eve's death for knowing of the time loops.
  • Glenn mentally worn down by the constant time loops notices one small yet significant difference in every loop. The difference is that in every new timeline, Sistine keeps giving him more attention. When he finally asks Sistine why she tries to look after him her goal of becoming chief magician is to get closer to her deceased grandfather. Sistine tells him that she and the others notice that he looks much worse before his sleep and tell him that although they can't know about his circumstances (since it would result in their death), they are still willing to help him.
  • In the last loop Sistine somehow retains a few memories of the previous loop and wants to help Glenn. When Glenn doesn't tell her about the circumstances due to being unable to, she doesn't get angry instead she does everything Glenn asks her with complete trust in him even when it's something very unreasonable such as not participating in the selection despite her own dreams. The only reason she does is, that it's clear he's going through something very hard and that it involves her Childhood Friend Ellen who needs to be saved. You can pretty much say that Sistine considers Glenn more important than her grandfather which just shows how much she cares about him.
  • In the end Ellen loses her memories of the loops which were very traumatic and taxing on her sanity and despite also losing the skills and power she gained, she still managed to earn respect from her schoolmates for her determination during the selection despite how hopeless the odds are.

    Volume 15
  • It's a bit nice to know that Glenn is known as the empire's hero for his deeds although he doesn't consider himself one.
  • It's confirmed that Ellen Kleitos is now freed from her household and abusive grandfather thanks to Glenn telling Sistine's father of her circumstances.
  • The trust Glenn shows to Sistine and Rumia since he knows they aren't the weak students he knew at the start anymore, but have grown up and become strong.
  • It turns out that Wendy, Lynn, Teresa and Cash took a temporary absence from school to cheer on their friends.
  • Chase comforting Luna after their loss.

    Volume 16
  • Glenn seeing how conflicted Sistine is as a result of Shigure's mantra and her inability to do anything about it decides to cheer her up by grabbing her attention with Extinction Ray and then yelling out that no matter what choice she makes, he will be on her side since he's her teacher. Although Sistine couldn't fully hear it she realizes what Glenn was trying to say and was able to reaffirm her dreams and goals, which allows her to regain her fighting spirit. On top of that, this also causes Sistine to finally accept her own feelings towards Glenn.
  • Sakuya despite losing has no hard feelings against Sistine and despite some worries about her family, she feels proud of the amazing match she just had.
  • Everyone takes a group photo together to commemorate their time at the Magic Festival. This picture includes the whole team including their aloof members, instructors, supporters, and even some of their opponents.
  • Pretty much every interaction between Glenn and Nameless is this when the former gets stuck inside Alcia III's notes. Nameless shows genuine concern and care towards Glenn although she does not want to outright admit it, while Glenn is more tolerable of her and even teases her a bit which is a far cry from their first interaction back at the Taum Observatory in which Glenn more or less wanted nothing to do with her.

    Volume 17
  • Empress Alicia VII confesses Glenn how she truly feels about the current affairs and that she can only tell the subject to him due to him not being a person of power at the moment. She then ends the conversation that he is better than he thinks he is due to the impact he has on other people even if he is unable to see it himself.
  • Glenn prevents Eve from joining her father and Lydia since it is clear to him that she is not doing it out of her own will, but rather out of fear towards her father. Eve who is hugged by Glenn from behind realizes that her trembling has stopped, which gives her the realization of how similar Glenn is to Lydia.
  • When Eve first met her sister, Lydia, she was completely gloomy due to her mother's death and father's cruel words, but Lydia was able to cheer her up by saying everything will be okay and that she will always protect her which she does even in death by preventing her clone from killing Eve.
  • The meeting between Glenn and Eve before their showdown with the latter's father, Azel Le Ignite, is this:
    • Glenn, who now knows the reason behind Eve's lapse in judgment in the mission that resulted in Sara's death, sincerely apologizes to Eve that he was too harsh on her especially since Sara was her Only Friend.
    • It turns out Glenn is the one who told everyone to trust Eve's rather risky plan since he completely believes that only she is able to succeed at defeating her father despite the odds.
    • Eve, who trembles out of fear for her father, gives Glenn the order to stay still. In order to rest her head on his shoulder and as to her expectations she stops trembling. She then asks Glenn to lend her his strength during the battle and although he doesn't answer back it is more or less clear he accepts without any hesitation.
  • Even being dead does not stop Lydia from protecting Eve. The remains of Lydia's spirit were able to prevent her clone from killing Eve and tell Eve to be herself instead of trying to strive to become like her. This allows Eve to defeat the imposter and support Glenn in finishing off her father.
  • Once the whole ordeal is over. Glenn hugs Eve from behind so that she can finally let out all her repressed emotions especially the death of her beloved sister Lydia.
  • It turns out Lydia actually succeeded in saving her other sister, Aries, from her father. In return, Aries shows her love and respect for her sister by avenging her death by finishing off Azel after he barely escaped Glenn's Penetrator.

    Volume 18
  • Nameless hugging Glenn when he breaks down over the fact he has to stay to protect Fejite at the cost of never seeing Celica ever again.
  • In order to help Glenn in his future battles Alicia III gives him the gun she committed suicide engraved with the words "May you be a righteous fool"

    Volume 22
  • In the Lotus-Eater Machine, Glenn is finally able to get some closure for Sara's death and losing Celica. He even sincerely thanks Jatice for this since a huge weight and regret is lifted from him after so long, which even takes Jatice aback.

    Volume 24
  • Everyone working together to get Glenn back since to them a peaceful world is worthless if it comes at the cost of his sacrifice.
  • Once the Pure Darkness has been defeated, the story ends with Glenn starting a lecture with more or less the entire cast attending it.

    IF
Since these stories are what ifs showcasing what would happen if Glenn were to end up together with any of the heroines, they are naturally filled with heartwarming moments.
  • IF01 "Eternal New God:
    • In this ending, Glenn chose to be together with Nameless and despite her belief that he will eventually be tired of their eternal life together, he makes it clear that he will never abandon her no matter what.
  • IF02:
    • It's rather adorable that whenever Eve is alone with Glenn, she acts completely affectionate with him to vent out her compressed feelings due to needing to act as the stoic head of the military.
    • Throughout the story Illya acts as the Secret-Keeper of Glenn and Eve's relationship and uses her magic to maintain the secret to preserve Eve's status as the head of the military along with calling Glenn her brother-in-law.

Memory Records of Bastard Magic Instructor

    • It turns out the reason, why everyone was so secretive to Rumia is because they were planning a surprise birthday party for her.
  • "Two idiots"
    • Nina's devotion to saving the orphanage she grew up with is this since she's willing to use every useful means to finance it even if it's something questionable such as joining her father's corrupt company. In the present, she managed to save not only her orphanage, but also many others after taking over the company and changing it to a more honest one.
    • Glenn and Nina's friendship is this. They met each other when the latter saved Glenn from a bunch of thugs for which she asked him to teach her basic reading and mathematics so she has more job offers. Glenn was inspired by Nina's speech that any kind of power will do so long she's able to protect those dear to her which caused him to create "The Fool's World", which he uses for the first time to save her life.

    Volume 3
  • "The Case-Book Of Rosalie Detert"
    • In Glenn's student years, he helped out a junior who had similar problems with magic and when they meet again in the present he helps her with her dream of becoming a magic detective despite her lack of magic talent. It's rather nice to know he had at least one friend in his student years since in the main story itself it sounds like he had no one aside from Celica as a friend or company during those years.
  • "Open Magic Academy"
    • The reason why Sistine wants to help Liz so much is that she helped when Sistine first attended the academy which allowed her to get along with her schoolmates now.
    • After several disastrous lectures on the open day, it is finally Glenn's turn. He explains the reason why he chose to show the visitors those lectures is because he wanted to show them the darker and less ideal side of magic. He then gives a sincere lecture on what magic is, which then reinvigorates the visitor's spirits and makes them passionate about magic again. Thus making the open day a success.
  • "Student council president and chaos records"
    • Liz's sincere desire to protect the school and its students. Glenn even said that if she just said that to him that he would have just helped her without the blackmail.
    • When Glenn learns about Liz's true identity of being the daughter of a Mafia Boss, he says that he doesn't care about that at all since she's just one of her students to him which makes Liz happy since she thought he would be scared of her like any other person.
  • "White Dog"
    • Sara brings Glenn to an orphanage full of the children he managed to save. The children there are grateful to him for saving their lives and one apologized to him for acting rude when Glenn was unable to save his parents. Sadly this just reminds Glenn of his failure to save their parents.
    • Sara's sincere belief and support towards Glenn's dream.

    Volume 4
  • "Privacy of Re=L"
    • It turns out the reason why Re=L was earning money was to pay for medicine for a young sick girl whose brother had to leave school to take care of her. When Sistine and Rumia know about this, the former contacts her father to give the older brother a job so that he can earn enough money to live.
    • Re=L moving in with Sistine and Rumia.
  • "Sickly-Goddess-Cecilia"
    • The reason why Cecilia wants to continue work at the academy is that one day she wants to open a hospital that would make healing magic more accessible to the common folk. Hearing her dream causes Glenn and his students to help convince her mother to let her stay.
    • In the end Jessica relents and lets Cecilia stay at the academy after she managed to save her life.

    Volume 5

  • "Sistine transforms into a pretty cat"
    • The reason why Glenn was so tired during class is that he was busy planning Sistine's training. He tells "Sistine", the cat he picked up who actually is Sistine'', that although he hates magic, he truly enjoys training her.
  • "THE JUSTICE"
    • Glenn takes care of Niege which includes telling her stories about his comrades which calms her down and holding her hand for an entire night when her sickness kicks in. When Niege asks if the reason he takes care of her so much is because of his dream to become a "Mage of Justice". Glenn replies that it has nothing to do with it since he believes he's just doing something every other human being would do.
    • Niege begs her father to at least spare Glenn since she truly came to care and possibly even love him for all the kindness he showed her, a person with many sins.
    • Glenn and Jatice are infected by viruses which can be cured by destroying the original. Jatice forces Glenn to choose between killing Niege, an innocent girl who was forced to carry it by her father, or finding the cure out of 100 identical bottles, 99 of which are poisons. Glenn without hesitation decides to put the contents of some bottles into himself to see if it's safe to put into her and despite Niege's objections that he should kill her to save himself, he continues to do so anyway, because for him sacrificing her isn't an option. In the end, she is saved once Jatice decides Glenn passed his test and found the bottle for him which Glenn just narrowly missed.

    Volume 6
  • "Rumia and the Nameless Reversal"
    • When Rumia or rather Nameless gets kidnapped by a rabid admirer. Nameless could have easily escaped by leaving Rumia's body, but is unwilling to sacrifice Rumia. Rumia in turn tells her not to worry since she knows Glenn will come to save them and she is completely correct.

  • "Inheritor of the Flame"
    • Lydia's protectiveness and support for Eve. Despite being half-sisters with the latter being a bastard child, Lydia truly cares about her younger sister as shown when she sacrificed her own magic ability to save her life.
    • In the beginning of the story Glenn and Eve had an argument about how to approach a village held hostage by terrorists, but after a while he decides to apologize and admits that he was acting childish and unreasonable. Eve (who partially recalled her past with Lydia) in turn allows him and the others to create a plan themselves much to their surprise.

    Volume 7
  • "Secret Night Cinderella"
    • Although it's rather funny that Eve and Glenn are unable to recognize each other, it's still heartwarming and a bit sad to know they could have been great friends or possibly even more if it wasn't for their current and past grievances.
    • Eve tells Glenn not to attack the magicians hired by the rude customer, because she's scared that he's going to die since from her perspective he's just a normal person who can't use magic.
    • Eve, whose unable to tolerate the humiliation from the rude customer, tries to use magic to defeat the magicians he hired, but is unable to. Then Glenn comes in with the Fool's World and beats them up, because he's unable to stand watching her suffer like that. For the record Glenn and Eve are unable to use magic, because of the disguise spell they used which would be undone when they use it and cause their secret work to be known to everyone. however, Glenn still chose to save his co-worker and reveal his identity, because he cares more about her than his reputation.
    • Glenn and Eve's final goodbye as Dales and Freya is rather sweet on both sides:
      • Glenn tells 'Freya' he's resigning from the club and encourages her that one day she shall achieve her goals and get recognized for them despite what that rude customer said since she's a good and hard-working girl despite her current setback.
      • Eve who knows Dales' identity tells him that it was nice meeting him to which he replies the same.
  • "A Story Dedicated To You"
    • Sistine's friendship with Mistine is this. They just happened to meet each other in a cafe due to Mistine reading Sistine's novel out of curiosity, but instead of just calling it bad like anyone else. Mistine gives Sistine her honest opinion that although the novel is of a rather poor quality, it's clear that the writer put their passion into the novel which is the first time Sistine heard something positive about her novel.
    • Although Glenn misunderstands the situation, he still gives full support to Sistine and even does what she asks without any questions.
    • In the end, Sistine remembers that she wrote novels not to win competitions, but just for her enjoyment and continues writing as passionately as before even if others don't like them.

    Volume 8
  • "The Married Life Of Another Time"
    • To support her daughter's love life, Queen Alicia arranges that Celica, Sistine and Re=L are forced to leave Fejite temporarily while assigning Rumia to look after Glenn during their absence.
    • While the meal she made ended up disastrous, it's still rather nice that Eve went to Glenn's house to cook for him under the belief that he didn't have a decent meal in a while due to Celica's absence.

    Volume 9
  • "The Nameless Beautiful Day"
    • For the final part of their date, Glenn takes Nameless to a high-class hotel. While initially under the belief that he wants to do something lewd like in the novel she read, he wanted to take her out for dinner. However, the truly heartwarming part comes when he shows her the true reason he brought her there, to see the beautiful night visage of Fejite. Glenn explains that he always wanted to go to the restaurant to see the view once he gets a girlfriend, but decided to go there with Nameless simply because he promised to give her a day she can't forget.

    Volume 10
  • "The Homeless Sorcerer"
    • Glenn notices that something is wrong with Eve through subtle differences in her behavior no one else notices. When he discovers it comes from becoming homeless after her apartment was destroyed in a fire, he immediately does everything he can to help her find a new place to live in. Once he can find a nice and comfortable apartment for her, she asks why he went through all the effort to help her. Glenn explains he simply did it for all the help she gave him during his time in the Specials Missions Annex despite their many disputes and differences with each other so naturally he would help her when she falls in hard times.
    • In a Call-Back to Volume 13 of Akashi Records, Eve asks Glenn if he is worried about her, but unlike in her case, Glenn immediately answers that he is genuinely worried about her leaving her flustered.
  • "The Red-Hot Boxing Tournament"
    • While Glenn's main reason for joining the boxing tournament is to cash in the prize money, he is genuinely excited and motivated to participate due to his love for boxing. During his training, Sistine Rumia and Re=L are moved by his love and motivation for the sport even while knowing his actual motives for joining.
    • Glenn and his opponent Oscar show much respect towards each other in the final match having both recognized each other as worthy opponents despite Oscar's initial impression that Glenn is one of the many participants that are Only in It for the Money. However once Oscar admits he also only participates for the money to support his family, he self-depreciates himself for his hypocrisy, but Glenn reassures him that there is nothing wrong with wanting to support one's family. They then both make clear that regardless of their circumstances they won't hold back against each other.
    • When Glenn wins the tournament he decides to give or rather 'invest' the money in Oscar so he can use it to support his family and further his boxing career. Oscar promises the teacher that he will not bring shame to him and gives his Worthy Opponent a handshake. Naturally, the entire audience is moved to tears by this touching spectacle. Although somewhat humorously yet still heartwarming, both Sistine and Eve have a Jerkass Realization upon reflecting on how much their greed overtook them, which causes them to spend the next days taking care of Glenn.
