Headscratchers / Inspector Morse

• Given how long Morse has been with the police, it must be common knowledge that he is Afraid of Blood. Why would that not come up in "Masonic Mysteries" when he's accused of stabbing someone to death? Surely the cause of death would have cleared him.
  • At best, that would only have cleared him of premeditated murder; there'd have still been the possibility that Morse panicked and killed the victim with the nearest thing he had to hand. And that's assuming that the investigating officer(s) didn't think Morse had been either faking or exaggerating his fear of blood all along.
• In "Who Killed Harry Field?", it's never made entirely clear who exactly carried out the titular murder; Morse knows who's responsible, but can't prove it — it's unclear whether said suspect did the deed himself or got someone else to do it on his behalf. Either way, the suspect in question is himself later murdered by the original victim's father.
